Pepe Escobar returns to our show to discuss the ever-changing, constantly-shifting, and holes-filled script in the US raid that allegedly killed Osama bin Laden. He reports on the news accounts on the Arab uprising in Egypt and the rarely reported realities of the Libya War, the conflicted responses of the United States to the uprising in Egypt and Libya versus those in other places such as Bahrain and Tunisia, and the hypocritical stand on Saudi Arabia. Book reviews of Start-Up Nation by Dan Senor and Saul Singer (Hachette Book Group, 2009) and Spy Trade by Grant F. Smith (Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy, 2011).

In the very readable book, Start-Up Nation. Authors Dam Senor and Saul Singer paint a glowing picture of modern day Israel, how this small nation of under eight million people, and many if not most of them, first and second generation immigrants, has become one of the leading patent holders in the, with innumerable business start-ups, and many of them hugely successful. Imperialism: The policy of extending a nation’s territory or power by establishing dominance over other nations. Sound familiar? Well, if we research all the major wars anywhere we find that they were all caused by imperialism. WW1 and WW 2 are prime examples. These were wars conducted by all the principal imperialist nations, whether they are the Axis or the Allies. Germany, Russia, France, Britain, Japan, China, the United States… all imperialist nations! Here at home, if you read General Smedley Butler’s essay from the 1930s: War Is a Racket, you see the evidence of what was done in our name in the Philippines, Mexico and Latin America. Of course, what we did to the American Indians is well documented. ‘Might makes right ‘should be added to any national anthems they sing before our many sporting events.
