Well, old honest Abe is back in vogue. The recent plethora of documentaries, movies, and books about him are all polishing up his halo once again. While they are putting the final coat of wax on the man and his presidency I have only three words to say: not so fast.

What would you say if you heard that a ruler of a country suspended its entire constitution, its entire bill of rights, forced a draft, and jailed every major writer and editor who disagreed with him? (more…)

Congress has attempted to implement legislation that could stop online freedoms, but a group of online advocates are pushing lawmakers to sign the Internet Bill of Rights to allow the freedom of expression, access, openness, innovation and privacy. Clive Hamilton in his “Requiem for a Species: Why We Resist the Truth About Climate Change” describes a dark relief that comes from accepting that “catastrophic climate change is virtually certain.” This obliteration of “false hopes,” he says, requires an intellectual knowledge and an emotional knowledge. The first is attainable. The second, because it means that those we love, including our children, are almost certainly doomed to insecurity, misery and suffering within a few decades, if not a few years, is much harder to acquire.
