democracynow – Apr 22, 2013

www.democracynow.org Authorities have used a public safety exception to delay reading Boston Marathon suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev his “Miranda” rights to remain silent and to have an attorney present, a move that has sparked controversy. The Obama administration has been criticized in the past for rolling back Miranda rights after unilaterally expanding the public safety exception in 2010. (more…)

This third interview with Finian Cunningham, an Irish journalist now living in Manama, Bahrain, is probably the most telling yet. The arrest of 47 medical personnel and the subsequent torture after their arrest for crimes against the government in Bahrain belies this notion expressed to President Barack Obama that “everything is returning to normal” in Bahrain. With the presence of the US 5th Fleet in that country, our government surely knows that the massive reprisals by the monarchy in Bahrain are still continuing, right up to the present day.

April 23, 2011

Finian Cunningham is a journalist currently in Bahrain. We will get to the REAL truth about what’s going on there and I think this will be a great show. This is the first Liberalpro show that has an international bent.

The information coming out of Bahrain is very telling and suggests that the United States is supporting a murderous Monarchy with the help of its ally Saudi Arabia, even while it claims that they are involved in the civil war in Libya for “humanitarian” reasons. (more…)

Bahraini rulers play sectarian card in bid to trump pro-democracy movement By Finian Cunningham

Increasing attacks on Shia mosques in the Bahraini state’s withering crackdown against the pro-democracy movement is a deliberate attempt to isolate the political opposition and amounts to a campaign of “sectarian cleansing”, say human rights groups.

Over the past four weeks since the Saudi-led Gulf Peninsula Shield military intervention in Bahrain, there appears to be a concerted drive by pro-state Sunni forces to target repression at the Shia population and in particular Shia mosques and other religious sites, such as cemeteries and meeting places known as Mattams.

Paul Jay: Was the Prime Minister the hidden hand behind the G20 fiasco in Toronto?

JAY: Superintendent McNeil told his hometown paper, The Cape Breton Post, quote, “‘We have the ability through our video feed to see everything that is going on.’ There are even helicopters and planes providing video feed. ‘We can see them from the air, we can see them from the ground, if there’s anyone trying to interfere, we would see that.’” Well, we know the police had infiltrated the black bloc. Now, we know the cameras could see everywhere. So why couldn’t the police defend their own vehicles? Was this part of a plan? Or a lack of available resources, as the police have said? Only a public inquiry can answer this question. Television images of police cars ablaze set the stage for mass arrests.

The Ontario Cabinet can impose something close to martial law without you even knowing

Everybody in Ontario should understand the Public Works Protection Act. It sounds like some obscure piece of legislation that couldn’t matter very much to most people. But look again. With a snap of the Ontario Cabinet’s fingers, they can essentially eliminate your right to assemble and eliminate probable cause before your person or your car could be searched.

The piece of legislation that was used to guard the G-20 is something that many civil rights lawyers just found out about and certainly the public found out about for the first time. Some people are calling it a form of martial law. The following is my interview with lawyer Paul Cavalluzzo a constitutional lawyer, who takes us through the Act. Pay attention, it could be you or your childrens rights that are at stake.

Understanding the Nature of the Global Economic Crisis

The people have been lulled into a false sense of safety under the rouse of a perceived “economic recovery.” Unfortunately, what the majority of people think does not make it so, especially when the people making the key decisions think and act to the contrary. The sovereign debt crises that have been unfolding in the past couple years and more recently in Greece, are canaries in the coal mine for the rest of Western “civilization.” The crisis threatens to spread to Spain, Portugal and Ireland; like dominoes, one country after another will collapse into a debt and currency crisis, all the way to America.

In October 2008, the mainstream media and politicians of the Western world were warning of an impending depression if actions were not taken to quickly prevent this. The problem was that this crisis had been a long-time coming, and what’s worse, is that the actions governments took did not address any of the core, systemic issues and problems with the global economy; they merely set out to save the banking industry from collapse. To do this, governments around the world implemented massive “stimulus” and “bailout” packages, plunging their countries deeper into debt to save the banks from themselves, while charging it to people of the world.

What began as a coup aimed at deposing a millionaire landowner president, whose “crime” had been to gradually shift Honduras away from US control and implement mild pro-people reforms, has spurned on a mass resistance movement with the potential to revolutionise the country.

Roberto Micheletti, installed as president after the military overthrew the elected government of President Manuel Zelaya, told the September 30 Argentine daily Clarin: “We removed Zelaya because he was a leftist … This worried us.”

However, more than 100 days since Zeyala was kidnapped at gunpoint and exiled to Coast Rica, Micheletti has even more to worry about.

Zelaya is back in the country, in the confines of the Brazilian embassy, and there is a mobilised population demanding more than just their president restored.
