For personal and health reasons, I regret that I have to pull out of active participation in the Barr/Sheehan 2012 campaign. I strongly believe in the Platform as written, and the mission statement of the Peace and Freedom Party, and hope to continue my activism when my health improves.

There is a common misperception that California is a “liberal” state—of course there are liberal to radical pockets, but most of the state is just pro-established, conservative, politics.

In general, you will find a bastion of the center-left in San Francisco where “pragmatism” really means, “I like the status quo, so don’t mess with it;” and center-right to far right leanings can be found in the central valley and near any one of our numerous major military bases housed in the Golden (for war profiteers) State.

(SOAPBOX #108) – It’s been 10 years since the fall of the towers, and America has been “shifted right” – far to the right; into the realms of Eternal War. To my mind, the formerly generous and caring American spirit has been transformed into distrustful and suspicious fear of anything that’s “alien” and “different”, coupled with a lust to punish all “miscreants”. And that’s not to even mention the growth of the national Security State and our declining/decaying civil rights! (See this on civil rights.)

I am not the only international guest speaking at the rallies against nukes and for world peace here in Hiroshima, Japan—a pediatrician from Iraq was also invited—Dr. Hassan.

Dr. Hassan has seen and is treating numerous cancers and other problems in children stemming from the US invasion and occupation and the use of conventional weapons coated with depleted uranium, or DU.

This will be a short piece, since I am getting ready to go to the anti-nuke/peace rally here in Hiroshima in a few hours (it’s the 6^th here), but I will give my impressions of that when I get back to my hotel.

Last night, I dreamed about my grandmother (Mamaw). I haven’t dreamed of her for years. I dreamed she came home to my house and I was going to get to take care of her.

We Reject United States Sanctions Against Venezuela

On Tuesday, May 24, 2011, the United States Department of State unilaterally imposed sanctions against Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), for its alleged relations with the government of Iran. The sanctions are a desperate and weak attempt to link Venezuela to Iran’s nuclear energy program as part of an ongoing campaign to justify further aggressive action against the South American oil producing nation.

Thirty-two years ago today, I was very pregnant with my first child. In those days, of course, we didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl and the pre-natal care usually consisted of a few blood tests and getting to hear the baby’s heart at every appointment.

With the June 5^th deadline looming, on Sunday May 28^th, my husband and I, went to an air show in Long Beach, Ca where we decided on the names: it would be Julie Anne for a baby girl or Casey Austin for a baby boy.

(SOAPBOX #99) – Cindy presents her guest Susan Lindauer, author of Exreme Prejudice: The Terrifying Story of the Patriot Act and the Cover Ups of 9/11 and Iraq.  Ms. Lindauer was a US “asset” covering the Libyan and Iraqi embassies in Washington D.C. and served as a “back channel” during the Lockerbie negotiations.  Thus she was situated in an ideal “fly on the wall” position there.
