WASHINGTON, May 22, 2011 (IPS) – The unilateral U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden created a spike in mutual recriminations between U.S. and Pakistani politicians, but their fundamental conflict of interest over Afghanistan was already driving the two countries toward serious confrontation.

The pivotal event in relations between the Barack Obama administration and Pakistan was the decision by Obama to escalate the war in Afghanistan in 2009, despite the knowledge that Pakistan was committed to supporting the Taliban insurgents as a strategic policy in its conflict with India.

Pepe Escobar returns to our show to discuss the ever-changing, constantly-shifting, and holes-filled script in the US raid that allegedly killed Osama bin Laden. He reports on the news accounts on the Arab uprising in Egypt and the rarely reported realities of the Libya War, the conflicted responses of the United States to the uprising in Egypt and Libya versus those in other places such as Bahrain and Tunisia, and the hypocritical stand on Saudi Arabia. Time to Talk about ‘Why & Why Now’

It has been over two weeks since the orchestrated ever-changing Bin Laden Death. The question of what happened remains the same except it doesn’t seem to matter any longer. The US media is done after making their initial splash, and the majority is left with one conclusion: the SOB is dead, and who gives a da… how it happened. Whether Osama held an AK-47 while using some damsel in distress as a shield, whether there was a real fight or not, whether it was really Osama’s body in an organic edible shell we fed to the endangered sharks, whether the full credit goes to the CIA or the White House or the Pentagon …no longer seems to matter. Remarks by the President on the Middle East and North Africa

THE PRESIDENT:  Thank you.  Thank you.  (Applause.)  Thank you very much.  Thank you.  Please, have a seat.  Thank you very much.  I want to begin by thanking Hillary Clinton, who has traveled so much these last six months that she is approaching a new landmark — one million frequent flyer miles.  (Laughter.)  I count on Hillary every single day, and I believe that she will go down as one of the finest Secretaries of State in our nation’s history.

“You can’t sustain a democracy in an oligarchic state. The writers on Athenian democracy understood that 2000 years ago,” says Chris Hedges, whose new book The World As It Is: Dispatches on the Myth of Human Progress explores the problems of a crumbling empire, inside and out.

We examine all the evidence, both that indicating bin Laden died, and that suggesting he was still alive in 2009; the important bin Laden videos and audio recordings, the significance, if any, in the timing of their release; and statements by significant political and intelligence figures.

“Because we don’t have true democracy in this country. We lose lives going overseas, spreading our goodness and great democracy and we orchestrate elections. We don’t like them, we void them. We ignore them — I’m saying — if we don’t get the people we support and the people the CIA supports. But running as an independent here is just about impossible, unless you’re a billionaire like Ross Perot. You don’t get on the base. If I was an independent, George, you would not have me on this program this morning,” Paul explained.

If one listens between the lines, it seems clear that the U.S. government has serious doubts about who it murdered in Abbottabad. The problem is not just the changing account coming from spokespersons. The problem is the facts themselves.

At first they were 90% sure that they had killed Osama Bin Laden, meaning a one in ten chance that they had screwed up. Pretty poor odds for an assassination. Then the odds went to 95%, and finally, after the fastest DNA analysis in history, to 99.9%.

Disposable: Osama

As more ‘facts’ emerge about the assassination of Osama bin Laden, one thing is clear: that there has been active collaboration between the Empire and the media in suppressing the true nature of the events surrounding bin Laden’s death[1]. For starters, are we to believe that the army of corporate media mavens swarming around Islamabad didn’t know about the following?

The CIA maintained a safe house in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad for a small team of spies who conducted extensive surveillance over a period of months on the compound where Osama Bin Laden was killed by U.S. special operations forces this week, U.S. officials said. — ‘CIA had secret outpost in Abbottabad‘, Washington Post, 6 May 2011

“In politics stupidity is not a handicap.” –Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821)

For those who believe in omens, the triumphal announcement of the murder of Osama bin Laden, his son and various of his household (if it were he) by US., special forces, did not bode well.

Running at the bottom of Fox4O on the event was: “Reports: Obama Bin Laden Dead.” On Fox News, anchor Gerald Rivero announced that Mr Obama had been shot: “President Obama, speaking from the East Room of the White House (told) the nation and the world President Obama is in fact dead, it was a US., led strategic … (more…)

Not All Sources and Experts Are Equal- Here Are some Real Ones!

There are ‘experts’ views,’ and then there are experts’ views. There are ‘government sources,’ and then there are government sources. Not all experts are equal. And, not all sources are reliable. Am I talking in riddles? Of course not; give me a chance and I’ll explain.

We have members of the popular media (mainstream and quasi alternatives alike) ever anxious to market and disseminate government conspiracy and propaganda. They, members of the popular media, have their own rolodex of ‘experts’ and analysts, some on their payroll, to help them propagate the delivery and execution of government-given propaganda-conspiracy. Sunday night when I learned of the death of Osama Bin Laden I did not feel elated, I did not hop on the #1 subway and head to ground zero, nor did I celebrate in the streets, drink champagne or chant USA, USA, USA!   Honestly, I wish he’d been brought in alive and put on trial like we did at Nuremberg.  I’d like to hear what he had to say and expose him for who and what he was.  I prefer justice to murder or assassination.  So instead of reveling in his demise I took a moment to reflect on what this has cost our country and our souls.

Before Osama’s body was cold, it seems, murdered by Navy SEALs in his bedroom, shot in the face assassination style, before his family, Obama was running down on May 5, 2011 to Ground Zero to pump hands with victim families (50 people in 60 minutes) at “private” family tables, providing the personal touch, running off to lunch at the firehouse that lost the most firefighters (15) on 9/11, then conducting a moment of silence at Ground Zero, and muttering the cliché “We will never forget.” Nor will we the people forget, who bought Obama’s line of “change” and voted for him to stop (not increase) “the dumb wars,” withdraw from Afghanistan and fight the financial bloodsuckers with biting legislation that would kill corruption not an untried enemy combatant.

WASHINGTON, May 8, 2011 (IPS) – Barack Obama and top administration officials have taken advantage of the killing of Osama bin Laden to establish a new narrative suggesting the event will pave the way for negotiations with the Taliban for peace in Afghanistan.

That good news message, reported by Washington Post senior editor Rajiv Chandrasekaran Tuesday, suggested that the administration would now be able to negotiate a deal that would make it possible for the United States to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan.
