WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 — Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) today introduced comprehensive legislation on climate change.

Boxer is chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Sanders sits on the environment committee and also is a member of the Senate energy.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today strongly objected to a proposal to cut Social Security benefits. The White House suggested a reduction in Social Security to cut costs as part of the so-called “fiscal cliff” negotiations.  The proposal called the “Chained Consumer Price Index” would result in a reduction of benefits for Social Security recipients even though Social Security does not contribute to the debt and should not be part of debt reduction negotiations.

In a summer of record heat, severe drought, extreme storms, melting glaciers and raging wildfires, Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday challenged claims by a leading Republican senator who dismisses global warming as a “hoax.” Sanders rebutted what he called “myths” espoused by Sen. James Inhofe, the ranking Republican on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “Many who take climate science seriously dismiss Sen. Inhofe. I believe that is a huge mistake,” Sanders said of the Senate panel’s former chairman. “For better or worse, when Sen. Inhofe speaks, the Republican Party follows.  And when the Republican Party follows, it is impossible to get real work done in the Congress.”

WASHINGTON, June 14 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today proposed an amendment to the farm bill that would let states require that any food or beverage containing genetically engineered ingredients be clearly labeled.

The Vermont Legislature earlier this year considered a bill that would have required labels on foods that contain genetically engineered ingredients.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 – Warning that “American democracy in endangered,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today proposed a constitutional amendment to overturn a Supreme Court ruling that allowed unrestricted and secret campaign spending by corporations on U.S. elections.

The first constitutional amendment ever proposed by Sanders during his two decades in Congress would reverse the narrow 5-to-4 ruling in Citizens United vs. the Federal Elections Commission. In that controversial decision almost two years ago, justices gave corporations the same First Amendment free-speech rights as people.

No “Super Congress” should be acceptable to anyone who claims to be a Democrat.  This is fascism on a plate!  It’s bad enough we’ve got five kinglets running amok on the Supreme Court.

My son and I, life-long Democrats who always voted in the past, will never vote again for any politician who votes for a deal that cuts Social Security, Medicare and/or Medicaid, or sets up a band of tyrants to force the hand of our elected representatives.

We’re all heard the hysteria, “If America doesn’t raise the debt ceiling she’ll default on her loans for the first time in our nations history.”  Everyone in Washington is in a panic.   All the Chicken Little’s are running around proclaiming, “The sky is falling!  The sky is falling!”  The corporate media picks up the mantra and echoes it throughout the land.  “The sky is falling!  The sky is falling.”  Now everyone’s in a panic, running around screaming, “The sky is falling!  The sky is falling!”
