The big loser: Bill Richardson, who later tried to clarify his remarks. Could you imagine a Republican at a Gay Forum? The Family Research Council and Pat Dobson would have a nervous breakdown.

wow, they’re really playing the group-identity politics up, aren’t they?
people should have the same rights, married or not, gay or not, woman or not, white or not. the state should not be involved in such civil contracts at all and should not give special benefits to any particular group. period. end of story.
i wish ron paul would have joined the panel. he has a very interesting nuanced position on gay marriage. he voted *against* the federal marriage amendment act but voted *for* the federal defense of marriage act…basically because the amendment was unconstitutional in essence and because the defense act would make it so that the supreme court could not come up with a single definition of marriage that all the states would be coerced into adopting…which may or may not include same-sex couples, again preserving states’ rights.
as a gay person myself, i think marriage is an ugly word loaded with historical baggage and should be abolished as a legal institution altogether and all these middle class monogamous assimilationist gays are betraying the true spirit of gay/sexual liberation. but maybe that’s just me.

People’s rights aren’t up for a debate or a vote. We don’t tell two heteros they can’t marry so don’t tell gays they can’t either.
