CIA Director to Testify About Destroyed Tapes 09 Dec 2007 CIA Director Michael Hayden will testify before Congress on Tuesday amid Democratic fury over the spy agency’s destruction of videotapes that showed terrorism suspects being interrogated using harsh techniques. Hill Briefed on Waterboarding in 2002 –In Meetings, Spy Panels’ Chiefs Did Not Protest, Officials Say 09 Dec 2007 In September 2002, four members of Congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program… For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA’s overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques torture interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk. Among the techniques described, said two officials present, was waterboarding… But on that day, no objections were raised. Instead, at least two lawmakers in the room asked the CIA to push harder, two U.S. officials said. “The briefer was specifically asked if the methods were tough enough,” said a U.S. official who witnessed the exchange.

Lawyers charge the CIA tortured their client in secret prisons 08 Dec 2007 Lawyers for a terrorism suspect from suburban Baltimore who’s imprisoned at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba claim they have evidence that their client “was subjected to a program of state-sanctioned torture” while he was in CIA custody. The lawyers for Majid Khan are asking a federal court to order the Bush regime to preserve evidence of how their client was treated during his three-plus years in CIA custody, saying they have ample evidence that he was tortured… Defense lawyers Gitanjali Gutierrez and Wells Dixon met with Khan for two weeks in mid-October at Guantanamo, where he’s held in Camp 7, a previously unknown part of the prison that’s reserved for former “ghost detainees”, according to declassified notes of their meetings. CIA censors redacted, or blacked out, whom the lawyers allege ran what they call “The CIA Torture Program.” Censors also blacked out two full pages in which the lawyers argue why, “There is no doubt that Khan was subjected to a program of state-sanctioned torture.”

rock on U?Auth
this post scared the piss out of me… The republicans are already trying to hide this shit, sweep it under the rock.
Pretending torture and human rights abuses is a balkanizing issue is either disingenuous or utterly frightening. I though we as a country stood against torture, right? Isn’t that a national stance. If it isn’t, than how different are we from the “terrorists” we hope to catch?
Great post.
Rock on.

Thank the Lord(your choice), or a Creator,
exposing their lust, for the days of the gladiator.
