http://www.legitgov.org/U.S. says Iranian gunboats ‘harassed’ warships –Officials describe incident as a ‘significant provocative act’ 07 Jan 2008 Iranian Revolutionary Guard gunboats harassed three U.S. Navy warships in the Strait of Hormuz Sunday, in what the U.S. military officials described as a “significant provocative act.” Military officials told NBC News Monday that two U.S. Navy destroyers and one frigate were heading into the Persian Gulf through the
internationalIranian waters of the Strait of Hormuz when five armed “fast boats” of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard approached a high speed, darting in and out of the formation. At one point a radio message from one of the Iranian boats warned, “You are going to blow up within minutes.” [How can you ‘harass’ a (foreign) warship in your own waters? Its existence in your waters is, in itself, a provocation. –LRP]Pentagon Says Ships Harassed by Iran 07 Jan 2008 In what U.S. officials called a serious provocation, Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats harassed and provoked three U.S. Navy ships in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, threatening to explode the American vessels.
Hello, Pot? This is Kettle… Iran should avoid provocative actions: White House 07 Jan 2008 The White House said on Monday that the harassment of U.S. Navy ships by Iran was “provocative” and warned Tehran against taking such actions in the future. “We urge the Iranians to refrain from such provocative actions that could lead to a dangerous incident in the future,” White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said. [Is illegally invading and occupying a country and killing over one million civilians ‘provocative?’ Just curious.]

Iranians are apparently expendable as were the Iraqis.
Gulf Of Tonkin Redux.
There was a “confrontation” but these kinds of incidents happen on a regular basis between ships of different flags, at VERY busy shipping intersections close to national boudaries. Almost always they just puff their chests out, have a little chat on the radio and sort things out. However, this one is being exaggerated and blown out of all proportions for highly sinister political motives.
