Kucinich Starts New Impeachment Drive

Representative Dennis J. Kucinich of Ohio may get excluded from Democratic presidential debates, as he has been recently, but no one can deny him the floor in the House.

And today Mr. Kucinich took to the floor to fire off his latest salvo at the Bush administration: his plans to introduce Articles of Impeachment against President Bush on Jan. 28 — the day of Mr. Bush’s State of the Union speech.

Accusing the administration of lying about the need for the war in Iraq, Mr. Kucinich said he did not need to hear the president’s assessment. “We know the State of the Union,” he declared. “It’s a lie.”

He also fired a volley at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California who has maintained that impeaching Mr. Bush is not on the table for Congressional Democrats. “If impeachment is off the table,” Mr. Kucinich said, “truth is off the table. If truth is off the table then this body is living a lie.”

Mr. Kucinich introduced Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney last April and in November, with the surprise help of Republicans seeking to embarrass the Democrats, he nearly succeeded in securing an hour of debate on the House floor. House Democratic leaders blocked that, however, by referring the impeachment effort back to the Judiciary Committee.

Anti-Bush groups have been urging Mr. Kucinich to undertake an effort to impeach the president.

Dennis Kucinich Gets a Smack Down on House Floor

Dennis said his piece, then had to retract it all.

This clip also shows why Congress won’t let C-SPAN control the cameras and microphones. I’d love to have hear what they said to Dennis on the side.

I had to fast-forward to get it into 10 minutes.

“The Center for Public Integrity in a report released today found, “the Bush administration led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information that it methodically propagated and it culminated in military action against Iraq on March 19 2003” In short the President and Vice President lied and 4,000 of our soldiers died the President and Vice President lied and a million innocent Iraqi’s died in a war that will cost us 2 trillion dollars while people here in the states are losing their jobs their health care their homes their dignity.

Lies are weapons of mass destruction, lies are also an impeachable offense. Monday January 28 is the State of the Union, we already know the State of the Union: its a lie. We must reestablish truth as our State of the Union. So on that day I will introduce articles of impeachment concerning the President. If impeachment is off the table then truth is off the table, if the truth is off the table this house will be living a lie.

The bible says, “you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Let us once again be the land of the free by beginning the process which the founders understood would set us free and keep us free: Impeachment.”

(a few minutes later)
“Madame speaker I ask unanimous consent to withdraw the offending words to the end that they by stricken from the record and that I be permitted to revise and extend my remarks for the record.”

Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich caused a stink on the House of
Representatives floor this morning during a speech where he announced he’ll introduce articles of impeachment against President Bush on Monday, Jan. 28, the day Bush delivers his State of the Union speech.

“We already know the State of the Union,” Kucinich says in his
speech, which has been posted on YouTube (see above) . “It’s a lie.”

Republicans objected to Kucinich’s statements, and the Cleveland
congressman returned to the floor a few minutes later to withdraw his “offending words.”

Florida GOP Rep. Cliff Stearns called Kucinich’s statements a “clear
and egregious violation of House rules” but said he’d accept Kucinich’s request to withdraw his remarks.

“Both sides here attempt to restore civility, calmness here with
legitimate debate and not utter personal accusations,” Stearns said.

  11. At this point I think Nancy Pelosi should be impeached. She is nothing but a lapdog for the Bush Klan. I’m not sure what Dennis said that was considered to be “offensive” short of using the word “lies.” So as I am to understand this, in order to get to the truth one cannot make use of freedom of speech and use the word “lie.” As a point of logic: to point out the truth … one must point out that there was a LIE. But then again, according to the UNpatriot Act, the use of a logical argument is now considered “terrorism.” I would like to know who caused Dennis to retract his words as well.

To those lies put before the American people by this administration and to all of those who continue to ignore them (Nancy) I can only quote Tomas Paine:

“Infidelity does not consist in believing, or in disbelieving; it consists in professing to believe what he does not believe.”

Thanks for the opportunity to speak out!!

    Peace and Love

  14. Who was that evil republican dweeb— I can almost smell the bad cologne from here…

OH I so hate politics. If it weren’t for wars i’d go back to being happy again and minding my business.

Fact is, he did get those words out, we did hear them, they are not stricken from the friggin’ record (this is NOT 1808, let alone 1908, and not even hard-drives can be properly expunged from the record, old-timer!) And Dennis will file Impeachment against Botch, and that wacko with the grey toupee will eat his hat, and I hope he chokes on it!

They were lies, and lies are weapons of Mass Destruction, and it’s a grand thing that this is all expressed, and published here on Lo’s fabulous blog.

We heard it, it went out over C-Span, and we know it’s true, so Dennis is a HERO.

  15. Things are indeed rotten in Washington. Kucinich does the right thing, something many Americans think is way overdue, and the powers-that-be find a way to paddle his behind and make him withdraw the truest words spoken in the House for quite some time. There is no clearer evidence that Americans have completely lost control of “their” government. With elections clearly rigged, we can’t even vote the bastards out of office without a worst one taking his place.

  16. Everybody,

Dennis is under attack in his district, emergency need of funds to counter the corporate attack ads:

Dennis Kucinich Announces Re-Elect Campaign (video)

They are trying to muscle him out of Congress.

And yes, he’s been threatened with assassination before, but this does not stop him.

Dennis is the true American Hero. Please everyone stand by him and back him with everything you have. He’s not just a good man, he’s unique (and trust me I’m no starry-eyed zealot).

Remember Paul Wellstone. Remember MLK. The ruling class does not take kindly to influential dissenters upsetting their vast wealth-machine.

Regardless of what the nation does, we are individuals, and as individuals we must back this man, if we ever believed in Peace and Justice. This is our chance. He can do more in Congress than a million-peacnick-march on deaf & dumb washington. He’s filing a 90-count indictment of Botch! Who’s gonna do that?? it’s historic!

I just sent him another $250 bucks. He’ not asking for ten and 20$ contributions, he’s asking for $100 per. Dennis is no greed-monger, lives in a small flat on a shoestring for 30 years. If he’s asking for emergency support, he must need it. We need it. The world must be protected from US horrific militaristic war-criminals of the USA and Dennis is apparently the ONLY man alive wiling to take on that obligation on behalf of al of us, regardless to obvious dangers to his life.
