A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a Russian TV journalist was found in Moscow. Police say 32-year-old Ilyas Shurpayev was strangled and his death could be connected to his profession.

Killing of two journalists shocks Russian media

Two Dagestani journalists have been killed in separate incidents in Russia on Friday. The head of Dagestan’s State TV and Radio Company, Gadzhi Abashilov, was shot in the city of Makhachkala. The other, Channel One correspondent Ilyas Shurpayev, was found strangled in his apartment in Moscow.

Mourners in Russia’s southern republic of Dagestan have been paying their last respects to Gadzhi Abashilov, The Head of Dagestan’s State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company, who was shot dead on Friday, just hours after another TV journalist from Dagestan was found strangled in Moscow.
