Antifascist Calling
Back in April, Antifascist Calling reported on the proposed shut-down of the Pentagon’s controversial Counterintelligence Field Activity (CIFA) office that illegally spied on the antiwar movement.
That office was officially “disestablished” August 4 by the Department of Defense (DoD). Simultaneously, it “activated” the Defense Counterintelligence and Human Intelligence Center (DCHC) “under the direction of the Defense Intelligence Agency.” Continue reading

‘You see our meat eating habits are more closely related to the vulture, the jackal or other carrion eaters. This means that we can’t be described as carnivores. We are better described as necrovores or eaters of rotting flesh.’
The meat industry is one of the most destructive ecological industries on the planet. The raising and slaughtering of pigs, cows, sheep, turkeys and chickens not only utilizes vast areas of land and vast quantities of water, but it is a greater contributor to greenhouse gas emissions than the automobile industry.

For most Americans, the Georgian invasion of South Ossetia, and the Russian military response, is akin to an obscure murder mystery. In a post-9/11 world, the media no longer covers events in the Caucasus, with the vicious conflicts that erupted in the 1990s a distant memory. Most will probably uncritically accept the mainstream media narrative that the current violence is explained by reference to the ethnic turmoil of the recent past and competition between the US and the Russian Federation for Caucasian and Central Asian hydrocarbons. The Russians have described the Georgian action as a dirty adventure, a pretty good shorthand description that discourages further inquiry.

Turns out the that Israelis have been supplying the US trained Georgian army with weapons. It was reported that they stopped such sales a few days ago:
Israel has decided to halt all sales of military equipment to Georgia because of objections from Russia, which is locked in a feud with its tiny Caucasus neighbor, defense officials said Tuesday.
The officials said the freeze was partially intended to give Israel leverage with Moscow in its attempts to persuade Russia not to ship arms and equipment to Iran. They spoke on condition of anonymity as Israel does not officially publish details of its arms sales.

Pentagon To Test Unclassified Alternative to Talon

The Pentagon, which closed its Talon intelligence database nearly a year ago amid concerns about domestic spying, will soon begin testing an unclassified alternative for tracking possible threats to U.S. military bases, officials said on Tuesday.
The system, an FBI-operated program called eGuardian, would for the first time sever the Defense Department’s collection of data on suspicious activity from U.S. intelligence operations by placing the information in an unclassified database for law enforcement agencies, officials said.

Abkhazia starts war with Georgia
The situation is escalating in Georgia’s second breakaway republic – Abkhazia. Its troops are on the move towards the security zone in the Gali region close to the border with Georgia. Meanwhile they are continuing a military operation to dislodge Georgian forces in the upper Kodori Gorge in northern Abkhazia.
The grim reality of war
Georgian troops are being squeezed out of the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali. As they retreat, they leave behind a trail of burning tanks and destroyed military vehicles. Many fighters who didn’t survive the conflict have also been left behind.
Evacuated kids fear for their parents’ lives
Russia’s Emergency Ministry has sent a convoy of 30 vehicles with 120 tonnes of supplies to the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. That’s where the majority of those who fled the conflict are seeking refuge. Many children are among them.

Beijing – President Bush has denounced the Russian attack on Tskhinvali, the capital of South Ossetia. “I had told Putin after I looked him in the eye that if he was ever to attack a state is should be Massachusetts where liberals and gay marriages are ruining America,” Bush said, “but Georgia is one of my states that voted for me without recounts and that means I’ll have to get Putin, dead or alive. So, as soon as I finish cheering our Olympiods to victorious victory here in China, I’m going to have to go back to Washington and teach those Russian a lesson by invading Iran.”
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice agreed that an attack on Iran was appropriate as the Iranians have not denounced the Russian attack. Senator John McCain said he would support a strike on Iran and said we should fight there for a hundred years if necessary, as soon as our troops could cross over the border into Iran from Czechoslovakia.
