Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered an end to the military operation in Georgia. He said the objective – “to compel Georgia to peace” – has been achieved. Medvedev also ordered the Russian military to “eliminate the aggressor” in the event of Georgian forces resuming hostilities.
Roadmap for Georgian peace drafted in Moscow
A roadmap to stop all hostilities in Georgia and ensure continued security in the country’s breakaway republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia has been brokered in Moscow. French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev gave a joint media briefing to comment.
‘We saw no bombing in Gori’ — witness
‘We were surprised by footage of bombed Gori — we were there and saw nothing like that’ — says RT correspondent Mikhail Lebedev who has just returned from the conflict zone and witnessed the events.
