A front page article “In Nuclear Net’s Undoing, a Web of Shadowy Deals” in Monday’s New York Times by William Sanger and David Broad details the destruction of evidence by the US government in a case involving the nuclear black market.

The article highlights again that the New York Times continues to engage in ‘Judy Miller reporting’ by warmongering and acting as a mouthpiece for the government. Continue reading

Biden, Obama & The Blood-Dimmed Tide + Tongue of Flame by Chris Floyd

I’ve been away for seven days, without access to email or the internet, in a country where I couldn’t speak the language, in a place with no newspapers in English anywhere to be found. It was a blissful detoxification from the media echo chamber — and from the even more deadly poisons of politics and power that the chamber so confusingly and cacophonously presents.

Only once, briefly, did I find myself in a room where CNN was blaring on a tiny television set. As it happened, it was the exact moment when Joe Biden was being anointed as Barack Obama’s running mate. It was a live feed: Biden was at the podium, giving a strangely stilted speech in a fake Southern accent. (Perhaps he was trying to channel Bill Clinton — or maybe Sam Nunn.) Although wearing a tie, he was coatless, with shirtsleeves rolled up, in that classic pose of political hackery: a man ready to “go to work for the American people.” (Obama, looking on rather distractedly from the side, was dressed in the same way).

Tongue of Flame: A Speech Presaging Endless War

by Chris Floyd

As we noted here yesterday, Arthur Silber has written a powerful and profound series of articles on the Joe Biden VP nomination, and its deeper implications. He has now followed these up with a piece on Biden’s disturbing — not to say blood-curdling — acceptance speech on Wednesday night. You should read Silber’s latest piece in full, but I wanted to add a few comments of my own.

Joe Biden’s acceptance speech was indeed a remarkable performance — bellicose and delusional and deceitful by turns. If you closed your eyes, there were moments when you would have thought that you were back in the Cow Palace in 1964, listening to Barry Goldwater belching fire and threatening doom for all those who challenge America’s uniquely exceptional special unquestionable morally superior dominance of the world.

LINTHICUM, Md., 23 Aug. 2008. Everyone who has ever watched the Star Wars films from George Lucas has probably at one moment wished they had Jedi abilities such as mind control or what Lucas called Jedi reflexes – knowing something will happen a second before it does.

A team led by Northrop Grumman’s Electronic Systems Sector is looking to bring a similar threat detection capability to warfighters as part of an advanced research contract to develop a panoramic day/night optical system that will utilize human brain activity to detect, analyze, and alert foot-soldiers to possible threats.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), in Arlington, Va., awarded the contract, which is for the first phase of the Cognitive Technology Threat Warning System program, or CT2WS.

DARPA officials say the CT2WS will function as an intelligent neuro-optical system, using the stimuli sensed by brain activity to detect targets at long-range over a wide field of view.

DENVER, Colorado –Senator Hillary Clinton released her delegates Wednesday afternoon, allowing those that had been pledged to her the freedom to vote for whomever they choose. She also took the opportunity to take a swipe at the Republicans by challenging President Bush to release political prisoners at Guantanamo.

“If I can release my delegates, and you know how hard I fought for them,” Clinton said, “then the President can certainly release detainees held in Guantanamo, those where there is little or no hard evidence they did anything wrong.” This move by Clinton it seen as a method to point out the differences on the issue of freedom between the two parties.

“Allowing her delegates to go free is a dangerous precedent for America’s national security,” said Rudy Giuliani into a megaphone as he marched on Fifth Avenue in New York wearing a shirt that read, “We will never forget 9-11’s Mayor”. Giuliani said it was a national shame that Clinton had been hoodwinked into “sympathizing with the terrorists we thankfully have locked up at Guantanamo.”

President Bush called Senator Clinton’s request to release prisoners “a shameful misusification of the war on terror for political reasons. As a popular war President I would never stupefy so low as to use fear, hatred and war to build the political capital I need to be that popular war President that I became. So we won’t grant releasification of any of those prisoners no matter how innocent they may be.” McCain responded by saying, “being the maverick that I am, I agree with everything President Bush said.”
