The republic remained unrecognised until last month when Russia acknowledged its statehood following an attempt by Tbilisi to retake it by force.

  2. I read an article in the India Times today that sneered about the fact that only Nicaragua has recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia. It mentioned Kosovo by comparison, neglecting to point out that 145 countries have not chosen to recognize Kosovo, INCLUDING INDIA!!

  3. South Ossetia”s independence from Georgia actually started in 1989, before there even was a Georgia (as a separate country).
