Powell and Palin
Colin Powell endorses Obama; Sarah Palin tries comedy
Elder statesman Colin Powell, a Republican, former head of the Joint Chiefs (under Bush Sr) and former Secretary of State (under George W. Bush) made a stunning announcement in Washington, endorsing Senator Barack Obama for President. He said one of the key reasons that prompted his choice was the selection of Sarah Palin by Senator John McCain as his running mate.
“[Obama] has both style and substance….he has met the standard of being an exceptional president. He is a transformational figure, he is a new generation coming on to the American stage and for that reason I will be voting senator Barack Obama.” says Colin Powell, making his support known and apparently he is not alone. With popular world polls showing 87% of people in support of Obama and an American corporate media machine that outright avoids asking the hard questions or dealing with real issues, we have seen more political discourse occurring on David Letterman and Saturday Night Live than CNN. This unfortunate fact only perpetuates the presidential race as being more akin to a circus or a series of comedic sketches than a real campaign with real world ramifications.
With Palin’s recent appearance on Saturday Night Live only reinforcing peoples concern of her qualifications or lack thereof, Powell states, “I don’t believe she is ready to be president of the United States.”
Pepe Escobar argues that in a race where all the lines are blurred between what’s real and what’s fake, this is hyper reality gone mad.
