Dmitry Medvedev has welcomed a decision by the U.S. not to push Georgia and Ukraine into NATO using the alliances so-called membership action plan (MAP). The Russian President said he was glad that common sense prevailed in the end.

Russia’s envoy to NATO says Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili could be replaced by the former parliamentary speaker Nino Burdzhanadze.

Dmitry Rogozin said that “another leader for Georgia is being prepared. Most likely it will be (former parliamentary speaker) Nino Burdzhanadze,” RIA Novosti reported.

The official claimed the alleged substitute was preferred by Tbilisi’s ally Washington.
