Israel’s Next War: Today the Gaza Strip, Tomorrow Lebanon? by Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya

The March to War: Today the Gaza Strip, Tomorrow Lebanon…

In the Middle East, it is widely believed that the war against Gaza is an extension of the 2006 war against Lebanon. Without question, the war in the Gaza Strip is a part of the same conflict.

Moreover, since the Israeli defeat in 2006, Tel Aviv and Washington have not abandoned their design to turn Lebanon into a client state.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy, in so many words, during his visit to Tel Aviv in early January that today Israel was attacking Hamas in the Gaza Strip and that tomorrow it would be fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon.[1]

Lebanon is still in the cross-hairs. Israel is searching for a justification or a pretext to launch another war against Lebanon.

Washington and Tel Aviv had initially hoped to control Beirut through client political forces in the March 14 Alliance. When it became apparent that these political forces could not dominate Lebanon politically the Israeli military was unleashed on Lebanon with a goal of bringing about the ultimate downfall of Hezbollah and its political allies. [2] Areas where support for Hezbollah and its political allies were strongest saw the harshest Israeli attacks in 2006 as part of an attempt to reduce, if not remove, popular support for them.

The U.S. Economy is being Marched to the Gallows – Predictions of hyperinflation, dollar decline and civil unrest

Global Research, January 16, 2009

The upcoming Financial Stimulus package courtesy of the new Economic dream team has left numerous economists and analysts quaking in their boots.

We are seeing predictions of hyperinflation, the destruction of the dollar, the flight of U.S. creditors, the prospect of widespread civil unrest and a descent in to a Greater Depression.

Small business owners have stood up and discredited the tax incentives that were meant to convince them to ignore market reality and open the door to new employees. The measures that supposedly address the enormous foreclosure problem seem to change from day to day and only work to the advantage of the banks. Obama and Bush have just signed off on an additional $20 Billion in cash and $118 Billion in asset guarantees for Bank of America which already received $25 Billion last year and is now choking on Merrill Lynch’s losses. The President Elect and his new Stimulus Czars are not paying attention and are proceeding to continue the same destructive formula adopted by Paulson.

Amid talk of cease-fire, eyewitness accounts describe Israel’s destruction of Gaza

“Armageddon” is the word used by Times of London correspondent Martin Fletcher, the first eyewitness from the British news media to see the devastation wrought by Israel in Gaza.

Twenty days after the Israeli military unleashed its firepower on the narrow strip of land containing 1.5 million people—more than half of them children—there is “no one left in the ruins to hear the thunder of Israel’s guns,” Fletcher wrote.

The Times correspondent was one of only a handful of journalists allowed into Gaza under tight Israeli supervision on Thursday, and even then only to the outskirts—the edge of the town of al-Atara.

Fletcher described houses and apartment blocks “mostly reduced to their shells” by the constant bombardment, commercial units “crushed” and vegetable fields “churned up by tanks and bulldozers.”

[…]

As Brockmann spoke there was mounting evidence to confirm reports that Israel is using white phosphorus as a smokescreen for the incursions by its tanks and troops into residential areas. Phosphorus, which is illegal under Geneva Treaty of 1980 in built-up areas, causes terrible burns.

Abu Shaaban, director of the burns unit at Gaza’s Shifa hospital, told Christian Aid that the situation was a “disaster.”

“We have been receiving a very high number of patients with a strange burn,” he said, “completely different to the burns we are used to managing, very deep burns with a very offensive, chemical odour coming from the wound site…

In 1848 a wave of rebellions swept across Europe. In the UK, every major city was occupied by protesters. The initial trigger? The ‘Irish Question’, that is to say, a failed uprising against the English colonial occupiers by the Young Irelanders who were inspired in particular by the 1848 revolution in France.

But in 1848 there was no radio, no Web, no photography, and most people never traveled more than a few kilometers from where they were born. Yet in their thousands they protested the length and breadth of the UK in support of people they had never even seen. The initial reason, Ireland, soon became a general demand for radical, that is to say, progressive change. They didn’t call ‘1848, Year of Revolutions’ for nothing.

It was also the year Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published the Communist Manifesto. “The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win.” The Manifesto was the programme of the Communist League and it was the first time that anybody anywhere had articulated the need for an international workers’ organization in order to overthrow the capitalists. This is also the period during which globalism as we know it today really started and not surprisingly, the two events are intimately connected.

The Israeli War on the Gaza Strip: “The Birth Pangs of a New Palestine/Middle East”

To truly understand the specific you must understand the general and to master knowledge of the general you must understand the specific.

What is taking place in the Palestinian Territories is related to what is taking place across the Middle East and Central Asia, from Lebanon to Iraq and NATO-garrisoned Afghanistan, as part of a broader geo-strategic objective. All the events in the Middle East are part of a mammoth geo-political jigsaw puzzle; each piece only shows you one picture or a portion of the picture, but when you put all these pieces together you see the grand picture of things.

For these reasons at times more than one event must be discussed to gain greater understanding of another event, but this at times comes at a risk of diverging or extending one’s focus in different directions.

The following text is based on several key sections of an earlier and broader text; this text is brief in form but comprehensive in its scope and more focused on the events in the Palestinian Territories and their role in the broader chain of regional events in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East.

Gaza doctors detail burns to entire victims’ bodies from chemical that is forbidden to be used as a weapon

A doctor shows phosphorus bomb injuries in Gaza. Warning: contains graphic footage of war injuries

Video showing injuries consistent with the use of white phosphorus shells has been filmed inside hospitals treating Palestinian wounded in Gaza City.

Contact with the shell remnants causes severe burns, sometimes burning the skin to the bone, consistent with descriptions by Ahmed Almi, an Egyptian doctor at the al-Nasser hospital in Khan Younis.
