Leftist FMLN Candidate Mauricio Funes Wins El Salvador Presidential Election, Ending Two Decades of Conservative Rule
In El Salvador, Mauricio Funes, of the former rebel FMLN party, has won the country’s presidential election, ending two decades of conservative rule. Funes won 51 percent of the vote to 49 percent for Rodrigo Avila of the ruling right-wing ARENA party. Avila conceded defeat late Sunday. The FMLN was a coalition of rebel guerrillas who resisted the US-backed military government. More than 70,000 people died over an eighteen-year period, the overwhelming majority killed by military and paramilitary forces. [includes rush transcript]

This is huge.
I’m no fan of armed insurgencies, but what else was the FMLN (or the ANC for that matter) supposed to do?
El Salvador was a paradise, but remains in shambles from the Amerigoon-backed civil war against the people.
Can we please post a requiem regarding the struggle, from the nuns, to Romero, and WAKE UP IMBECIL RAYGUN from his demented waste-of-real-estate grave, and force his dim-witted face in this victory and say LOOK AT THIS YOU RIGHT WING STUPID WORSE-THAN-BOTCH AMERIGOON GREASY-HAIRED FAILED MANIAC!
Anyone who celebrates raygun needs to kneel before this victory and repent, in fact they need to go to San Salvador and devote their lives to helping the impoverished campesinos recover from the horror WE, THE HIDEOUS, ODIOUS USA inflicted on them, from which they’ve yet to recover for almost 30 years.
Las Venas Abiertas are STILL BLEEDING

About time the oligarchy is kicked out. It needs to have in the US.
