The Dirty F***ing Hippies Were Right

This pretty much sums up all the posts on Dandelion Salad. Thanks, Dave, for the link. ~ DS

We’re all in this together, folks.

This is a rant about the greed that permeates the American political landscape. In fact the very core of who we are as a nation and a people.

Until we re-regulate our glorious corporate overlords, our condition -the Human Condition- in this country and on this planet remains in the hands of a select group of sociopathic plutocrats that care nothing of their nation and only about their personal fortunes.

Self appointed Masters of the Universe who don’t seem to realize that their gene pool has been diminished and dulled by decades of greed, avarice and a sense of entitlement.

All born on 3rd base, swearing they hit a triple.

We Were RIght. They will devour themselves.

My only hope is that the rest of us survive the feast.

  4. Amen, Lo!! 🙂 I am a dirty f***ing hippie! I am going to steal this video, OK?

And that this dirty f***ing hippie is telling you all:

Find you some land and a little house or a cheap mobile home in the boonies down south here somewhere – build you a solar/wind energy system, dig your own well, and start planting that big garden! Think of a skill, a product, or a trade that you can offer in swap or barter to people who are living in hardship and Depression, and GET TO WORK ON IT NOW!
Thanks for sharing this, Lo! 🙂

  5. Indeed it’s a testament to the power of the brief three-year anti-war counter-culture, that for 40 years, Raygun, Robertson, Swaggart and the whole right wing conspiracy banded together to enlist the populist support of the ‘conservative’ warmongering corporatists in the name of ‘Amerigoon Values’.

But It’s a testament to the vast populist power of this dark-sided cabal of greed-mongering religious fanatics on the ‘right’ that Abbie offed himself, Rubin became a yuppie (along with the rest of his creed), and that Cindy Sheehan now stands virtually alone.

Those anti-war nature-lovin’ freedom-fighters (notwithstanding the posing drug-addicted hangers-on who exchanged acid for coke and disco a few years hence) may have been right, but the vast legions of amerigoons who hated their every unruly hair, and who bought wholeheartedly into the lock-step hypnosis that landed us all where we now are, were, are, and remain wrong.

But this is what america is, folks, and this is what they love to be: Mega-church dwellin’, animal killin’, Hannity-worshiping, toothless followers of Impalin & McBomb. Those who consider themselves ‘liberals’, voted in daft droves of similar ‘believers’ for the continued wars and corporate bailouts they knew would transpire under Obomba.

Any resistance was for 40 years pacified by the continued tastes of re-inflated false wealth, while the world burns. Turn down that tiny bit of trickle-down wealth they tasted, and do the people uprise in outrage? No! The people are enlisting again for bogus wars in droves.

The Hippies were right, as was Pete Seeger, and the Guthries, MLK, Susan B. Anthony, and Harriet Tubman, and all those who fought for peace, justice and the rule of law. But the Botch years showed that popular movements and demonstrations can simply be ignored to gereat effect.

The fight is over, friends, America is lost. Correction will have to come from without. The only hippies or radicals you’re likely to ever see again in this land is a tie-died tee-shirt on a short-haired suburbanite at a Grateful Dead reunion. There is no anti-war movement, no outrage, no love, only greed, god and guns.

Real freedom of mind, real peace, real human values are NOT what this populace is about. Integrity is not profitable. Fascism, guns, brute force, and corporatism is what this population lives for, and despite all outrages, not a glimmer of change manifests at ground level.

The best the youth of the USA can do is Obamanation and the ultra-rightist, gun-mongering, anti-environmentalist gold-buggery and bunker-dwelling militia-movement skin-headed conspiracy addicts who glom onto Ron Paul (whether he likes them or not).

But what can one expect from a nation of celebrity pop-culture addicts who are incapable of questioning authority, and who think political ‘progress’ is pursued through the preachings of political pop-stars or even congressional folk heroes?

It’s the americon people who, with each increasingly obese, fast-food-fed, gun & video-game addicted generation grow more hollow and corrupt to their core.

And it is the fault of the people for defusing, assassinating and disbanding any proper home-grown dissent, and for creating and pursuing a nation born of greed, god and guns, which is exactly what it overwhelmingly remains to this day.

Welcome to amerigaah the beautiful, where the USA SUCKS!

  7. Before the hippies existed, others were anti war, (pacifists and conscientious objectors were around in 1914 when the first world war started). The organic farming movement also predates the first world war.

“Kill the pigs” was a common hippy slogan, and of course, there was a lot of talk about the overthrow of the state using violence. If they saw a returned veteran or soldier in uniform, (many of) the hippies spat at them.

It’s a myth that they were all peace and love, man. For most, it was a youth fashion, like being a goth or surfer. I’m not anti-hippy – i’m anti-bullsh*t

    • Let’s just back up a little. I was there in the 60’s and 70’s and I participated in many demonstrations and marches, etc. Never once did I ever see from 1966 to 1976, anyone, Hippie or otherwise, spitting on any veteran or soldier. That was a myth of the far-right and everybody knows or should know that by now !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!; and you bought it, even today, and now you want to go around spreading that crap again.. Give me a break. Get your facts right.

  8. I just really like the title. Up until the “were right” part.

Don’t get me wrong. The ideals are generally good. I’m glad the mainstream has coopted some of the ideas (or the hippies have more or less assimilated into the mainstream). Let’s not encourage them or the Baby Boomerstoo much. They are both at times as obnoxious as Rush Limbaugh.
