When he was young, Jack London was a very strong man and an oyster pirate on San Francisco bay. He initially believed in might makes right. However, he worked in many different occupations and noticed many strong, decent, hard working men destroyed by accidents, diseases, the fickle hand of fate or the toxic, dangerous and harsh environments of the capitalist’s factories and mines. Jack London became similar to Upton Sinclair, who wrote about the destruction of Jurgis Rudkus’s Lithuanian family in the meat packing plants of Chicago in a book called The Jungle. Jack London, besides writing novels like The Call of The Wild and White Fang, also wrote books critical of his former ideology and of capitalism such as The Sea Wolf and The Iron Heel. Much to his credit, Jack London became a socialist.

AlJazeeraEnglish
July 04, 2009

Fourteen people remain in custody after an aid ship bound for Gaza was seized by the Israeli navy on Tuesday. Among them are a nobel peace prize winner, and two Al Jazeera journalists. The Free Gaza movement sent the ship loaded with humanitarian supplies from Cyprus, in defiance of Israel’s crippling 2-year blockade.

Mairead Maguire, a peace activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner spoke to us from inside Tel Aviv’s Ramla Givon high security prison.

Report from the Kidnapped Passengers in Ramle Prison, July 4, 2009

On Monday, June 30, 21 passengers going to challenge the blockade of Gaza on board the Spirit of Humanity were seized by the Israeli Navy and taken to Israel against their will. All their equipment was taken and some of were roughed up. All were thrown into prison to await Israel’s decision on how and when they would be deported.

The majority of the group ended up in Ramle Prison. Those of us who are Free Gaza organizers had been hearing some news from them, statements, interviews and letters since they arrived. From the first night, the Free Gaza 21 have been busy trying to get news out of the prison about the illegality of Israel’s actions in relation to themselves and the other inmates inside Ramle Prison who have no voice.

Imagine if Iran had hijacked a ship delivering humanitarian aid in international waters and kidnapped its passengers, including a Nobel laureate and a former U.S. Congresswoman. Do you think just maybe you might have heard about it?

But when Israel does precisely that, there is near total silence. Where it is being reported, the mainstream media is employing couched language that is apologetic towards Israel.

A New York Times story, for instance, reported under the headline “Activists Held by Israel for Trying to Break Gaza Blockade” that “Nineteen foreign activists of the pro-Palestinian Free Gaza Movement were being held in Israel awaiting deportation on Thursday, two days after the Israeli Navy seized control of their boat off Gaza.”

Tel Aviv has kept options wide open for an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Saudi Arabia will allow Israeli bombers to use its airspace for an aerial attack on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, diplomatic sources say.

Director of the Mossad, Meir Dagan, has assured Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Saudi airspace would be available for Israel in case it plans to move forward with a long-threatened military foray into Iran, reported The Sunday Times.

According to the report, Saudi officials, in secret talks held earlier this year, have agreed to “turn a blind eye” to Israeli bombers flying over the kingdom to strike Iran’s nuclear sites.

The head of Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence service, has assured Benjamin Netanyahu, its prime minister, that Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets flying over the kingdom during any future raid on Iran’s nuclear sites.

[…]

The Israeli press has already carried unconfirmed reports that high-ranking officials, including Ehud Olmert, the former prime minister, held meetings with Saudi colleagues. The reports were denied by Saudi officials.

“The Saudis have tacitly agreed to the Israeli air force flying through their airspace on a mission which is supposed to be in the common interests of both Israel and Saudi Arabia,” a diplomatic source said last week.

Saudi Arabia would turn the other cheek and allow Israel to use its airspace to attack Iran, London’s Sunday Times reports. According to the report, Mossad chief Meir Dagan has told Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that Syria has hinted to the move.

Several media sources reported Friday that an Israeli Dolphin submarine passed through the Suez Canal on its way to the Red Sea last month as part of a naval exercise. Israeli security officials told the Reuters news agency that the exercise was done as part of testing Israel’s strategy in light of the Iranian nuclear threat. Egypt denied the reports.
