An Iranian Caspian Airlines passenger plane has crashed in northwest Iran, with all of the 168 people aboard, 153 passengers and 15 crew members, presumed dead, informs Iranian state television.

A Caspian Airways jet headed for Armenia has crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran, the Iranian capital. None of the 168 people aboard are believed to have survived the accident.

Alireza Ronaghi, Al Jazeera’s Iran correspondent, reports from the scene of the crash near Qazvin, northwestern Iran.

  1. A terrible tragedy for a people who have borne enough. Plus…well…YOU know…could it have been intentional? Time will tell, and planes DO just go down. But there is some recent history in this area that makes me wonder a little.
