Cynthia! – August 16, 2009 (SOAPBOX #31) – Cindy welcomes former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, “kidnapped” and imprisoned by the Israelis for seven days.  Maybe she was considered dangerous for her “crime”:  She actually brought CRAYONS to the children of Gaza!  A heinous crime indeed!  Everybody knows that we should look forward and not back when it comes to trivial matters (like systematic torture) – but intolerable evils such as distributing CRAYONS to CHILDREN (evidently) deserve the full force of (someone’s) law!  What a danger to humanity!  Listen in!

Cindy Sheehan to lead protests against the wars near Obama’s vacation spot on Martha Vineyard

For immediate release:

Next week, Cindy Sheehan will join other like-minded peace activists to have a presence near the expensive resort on Martha’s Vineyard where President Obama will be vacationing the week of August 23-30.

From her home in California, Ms. Sheehan released this statement:

“There are several things that we wish to accomplish with this protest on Martha’s Vineyard.

First of all, no good social or economic change will come about with the continuation or escalation of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. We simply can’t afford to continue this tragically expensive foreign policy.

Secondly, we as a movement need to continue calling for an immediate end to the occupations even when there is a Democrat in the Oval Office. There is still no Noble Cause no matter how we examine the policies.

Thirdly, the body bags aren’t taking a vacation and as the US led violence surges in Afghanistan and Pakistan, so are the needless deaths on every side.

And, finally, if the right-wing can force the government to drop any kind of public option or government supported health care, then we need to exert the same kind of pressure to force a speedy end to the occupations.”

Cindy Sheehan will arrive on the Vineyard on Tuesday, August 25th.

  6. They are planning never to leave either Iraq or Afghanistan because of the oil of the region. I have read Generals of the United States and Britain discuss terms of deployment of 10 or 15 years, but they mean that indefinite date in the future when the oil runs dry. Then, if Russia is still a powerful state and is not compliant with US desires, they may still want to ring Russia with military bases. Even with severe US military losses to the Taliban, this will continue till millions of Americans are in the streets of Washington, D.C. and I think most Americans are too complacent and brainwashed to do this.

  7. Bravo to Cindy and Cynthia..I wish i could be there..the Right talks of a “culture of life”–this smacks of hypocrisy as we continue our march towards careless death of innocents, at home and abroad.

A culture of life does not kill innocent civilians, at home or abroad. They dont fund drones and bitch about paying for a kid’s heatlh care.

I really feel so angry about all of this right now, I should probably not say much, but, the Dems have been forewarned!!

No need to ask most of them “which side are you on”–they have made that very clear….has anyone seen this site? I have a penpal there now and you can follow the site and see videos…its very sad and will make you cry sometimes, but, if we can get more people to see the ‘other” as having much more in common with us than those basterds in DC, maybe peace will someday come…I want to see it NOW

  8. Cindy is so admirably right.
The wars remain the main matter for americans to dissent.

How dare we get so distracted by FOX pundits’ pawns and their anti-social machinations.

Do we even have the right to debate healthcare in this country so long as we are killing innocent’s abroad?

Again I point to maher, (whom one doesn’t always agree with) on Obama’s sudden interest in golf:

“The only sand-trap I wanna see Obama getting out of is Afghanistan”.
