OBITUARY
WASHINGTON
Robert Novak, the conservative columnist whose scoops broke many a career, made his reputation as a journalist by being unafraid to attack his ideological brethren.
The same dynamic underlay the contentious and at times ugly relationship he had with fellow Jews.
Novak died Tuesday in Washington after an extended struggle with brain cancer. He was 78.

But it was an effort to defend the Iraq invasion that almost railroaded Novak’s career: He was the first to publish the name of CIA operative Valerie Plame, as part of the Bush administration’s retaliatory campaign against her huband, Iraq War critic Joseph Wilson. Novak’s role in the affair contributed to the end of his long CNN career.

Novak’s attacks on the pro-Israel community repeatedly veered into the conspiratorial; he helped purvey the notion that the Iraq War was fought in Israel’s interest. He also was a rare mainstream voice endorsing the widely rejected claim that Israeli forces had intentionally attacked a U.S. naval ship in the Mediterranean Sea during the Six-Day War in 1967.

Novak will perhaps be best remembered — if at all — as one of the most compulsive professional liars to have wormed his way inside the Beltway, and that’s saying something. And when it came to the interference he ran to protect the Bush-Cheney administration — culminating in his central role in the Valerie Plame affair — and his resulting efforts to cover his tracks, it even had historic proportions. Novak himself had constantly lied about this role, and was fond of accusing the people uncovering his tracks of lying. (See Marcy’s authoritative work on Novak for more.)

Outing Valerie Plame was bad enough by itself, but the fallout was that HUNDREDS of thousands of people are dead because of what he did. Novak is one of the very few people directly responsible for the subsequent war in Iraq.
Burn, baby, burn. Burn in hell.
Ding Dong “The Prince of Darkness” is Dead.
Anybody who would title their book The Prince of Darkness, and not expect a bunch of cultlike Satan Worshippers to be attracted to it……. is not thinking properly.
Robert Novak will be sorely missed by people such as Valarie Plame like a recurring yeast infection. What else can you say of a dead man who can [no] longer tell any tales?
Novak should have died in prison after what he did in Plamegate.
