Mérida, August 27th 2009 (Venezuelanalysis.com) — U.S. author, dissident intellectual, and Professor of Linguistics at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology Noam Chomsky met for the first time with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in Caracas and analyzed hemispheric politics during a nationally televised forum on Monday.
Chomsky is well known in Venezuela for his critiques of U.S. imperialism and support for the progressive political changes underway in Venezuela and other Latin American countries in recent years. President Chavez regularly references Chomsky in speeches and makes widely publicized recommendations of Chomsky’s 2003 book, Hegemony or Survival: America’s Quest for Global Dominance.
The corporate media is doing another disservice to real socialists and communists by mislabeling Lyndon Larouche as a “communist” or “socialist,” as his followers attack and disrupt health care reform meetings. These activities add a new chapter to this group’s reactionary history, abetted by misrepresentation in the corporate media.
Larouche’s gang has stood outside “town hall” meetings holding pictures of Obama with a Hitler-style mustache and the words “I’ve changed.” The media have attempted to use Larouche’s behavior to attack the left. When covering the rightist attacks on health care proposals, several newspapers and television programs have identified Larouche’s followers and their despicable sign as “communist,” “socialist” and “leftist.” Such claims are a great falsehood and distortion of reality.
In Israel, a country stolen from the Palestinians, fanatics control the government. One of the fanatics is the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Last week Netanyahu called for “crippling sanctions” against Iran.
The kind of blockade that Netanyahu wants qualifies as an act of war. Israel has long threatened to attack Iran on its own but prefers to draw in the US and NATO.
Why does Israel want to initiate a war between the United States and Iran?
Is Iran attacking other countries, bombing civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure?
No. These are crimes committed by Israel and the US.
excerpts from: Iran ‘scores points’ on IAEA report despite US pressure
Press TV, 29 August 2009
Tehran[‘s ambassador to the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali-Asghar Soltaniyeh] says despite US pressure the UN nuclear watchdog has reflected four of the positive steps taken by Iran in the latest report it released on Friday.
After several weeks of protests at Senate hearings and health care events by single payer advocates (visit singlepayeraction.org), six physicians from Oregon, with 191 years of combined real-world medical experience, are crossing the country in a 27-foot Winnebago making stops in nearly 30 cities, to debate, educate and advance full medicare for all. Everybody in, nobody out.
Calling themselves “Mad as Hell Doctors,” these physicians are already drawing crowds and expect thousands to turn out at each city that they visit, culminating in a large arrival demonstration in front of the White House around October 1. (Visit www.madashelldoctors.com)
In an exclusive interview with RT’s Anastasia Churkina, anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan talks about the need of accountability, an end to Iraq and Afghanistan, and the American psyche ignoring the truth.
The New York Times is putting out its standard fare on Iran’s nuclear program as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) releases its latest report. Under the headline “Atomic Agency is Pressed on Iran Records”, the Times reported last week that the U.S. is “pressing” the IAEA “to make public evidence that they believe points toward an Iranian drive to gain the ability to build a nuclear weapon, part of a broad effort to build a case for far more punishing sanctions against the country.”
This information is from “documents and computer files” that Iran insists “are fabrications”. But the IAEA, “according to current and former officials there, has studied them with care and determined that they are probably genuine.”
