Salvage Party Health by Sabotaging Everyone Else’s
Grandma doesn’t have to dread “death panels” anymore. Nor perils from paltry Obama health reform, natural causes or natural disasters. All she has to do for deliverance is embrace today’s apocalyptic scare tactics from Republicans. So keen to destroy Barack Obama, they prey mercilessly on the weak – weak of body, will, and mind, especially mind. Mastering the media debate, the Right is terrorizing the terrified: health reform is no longer about life or healing, but denial of services and early death. While the White House looks dazed, the GOP goes with its trustworthy shock tactics to revitalize party fortunes – not unlike zombie vampires feeding on the living. Quite a trick, though less daunting when you bushwhack believers who already distort death as life.

Col. Lawrence Wilkerson served in the US military for 31 years and was Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell from August 2002 until January 2005, two months after Powell’s resignation, when he left the State Department. He is now the chairman of the New America Foundation’s US-Cuba 21st Century Policy Initiative.
In the first part of this interview, Col. Wilkerson discussed fears within the State Department that war crimes were taking place in Afghanistan, how he suspected that the British Overseas Territory of Diego Garcia (leased to the US) was used to hold prisoners in the “War on Terror,” and, perhaps most significantly, how he had recently become convinced that the administration’s fear of another terrorist attack (which was, essentially, used to justify the implementation of “extraordinary rendition” and torture) subsided more rapidly than has been previously acknowledged, as the drive for war in Iraq took over.

Our dominant culture, in which I fully admit to participating (despite my significant efforts to minimize my involvement) is wreaking havoc on this “pale blue dot” we call Earth. Climate change, scarce and tainted water, devastating levels of toxins in the environment, rampant consumerism that generates truckloads of fetid refuse per second, massive deforestation, and the Sixth Extinction[1] implicate humanity, and our socioeconomic/cultural construct we euphemistically call “civilization,” as nothing short of the living embodiment of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Our species, by virtue of our chosen ways of interfacing with the world, personifies Death, Famine, War, and Pestilence. Despite our numerous worthwhile attributes and accomplishments, humanity specializes in slaughter, mayhem, abject cruelty, genocide, ecocide, and all manner of destruction.

Here is the now “famous” 9-11 petition that got Van Jones run out of the Obama administration. Notice that I signed it too. The right-wing is already planning to go after more “socialist-types” in the Obama administration. If Obama doesn’t soon stand up and fight against this brown shirt red-baiting he might as well resign himself. Unlike Van Jones I do not renounce my signing of the letter as a “mistake”. I proudly stand by the letter, and the fundamentally important questions it poses, as I am sure all the others who signed it do as well.

We Want Real Answers About 9/11
On August 31, 2004, Zogby International, the official North American political polling agency for Reuters, released a poll that found nearly half (49.3%) of New York City residents and 41% of those in New York state believe US leaders had foreknowledge of impending 9/11 attacks and “consciously failed” to act. Of the New York City residents, 66% called for a new probe of unanswered questions by Congress or the New York Attorney General.
