Aside from the racism that the people of European descent and white majority countries have exhibited towards Haiti, Haiti, has not been allowed to prosper, because a country like Haiti (extremely poor, that has ‘never really had it together’) cannot be seen (by other impoverished nations) to be successful. It’s similar to Nicaragua and the revolution led there against the U.S. backed dictator Somoza; Nicaragua is the second poorest country, in the hemisphere. The abominable Ronald Reagan had to kill a socialist country like Nicaragua, because you cannot give any hope to such countries as Haiti and Nicaragua. If you give these nations and peoples ‘dignified poverty’ as Aristide has called for in Haiti, others like them will get the same idea!

Ashley Smith describes the natural and not-so-natural factors that contributed to the devastation when Haiti was struck by a strong earthquake.

A DEVASTATING earthquake, the worst in 200 years, struck Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, laying waste to the city and killing untold numbers of people. The quake measured 7.0 on the Richter scale, and detonated more than 30 aftershocks, all more than 4.5 in magnitude, through the night and into Wednesday morning.

The earthquake toppled poorly constructed houses, hotels, hospitals and even the capital city’s main political buildings, including the presidential palace. The collapse of so many structures sent a giant cloud into the sky, which hovered over the city, raining dust down onto the wasteland below.

New evidence has emerged suggesting three Guantanamo prisoners whom the U.S. claims took their own lives in June 2006 died not from suicide, but torture. A six-month investigation by Harper’s Magazine indicates the three prisoners were suffocated and tortured during questioning at a secret black site facility at Guantanamo known as “Camp No”.The article is based in part on testimony from a former staff sergeant who says the Obama administration has refused to investigate his claims.

The Presidency of Barack Obama has done more to undermine the left than any Republican sitting in the Oval Office. I believe that this was the reason that this particular Democrat was chosen by the people that hold the real power in America. Now that he is in power and he has demonstrated his willingness to use military force to achieve the goals that his handlers set for him, it’s fairly easy to connect the dots. The old maxim that hindsight is 20/20 while foresight is practically blind fits well in this example. Let me illustrate how I believe Obama has manipulated the system to the point where the political left is for all intents and purposes, a dead political entity. The only thing left at this point is to hold the funeral and send flowers. You can call this article the eulogy for the left.

A powerful Aftershock measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale has hit Haiti some sixty kilometres away from the capital. Early reports say residents abandoned their homes and gathered on the streets for safety. This comes a week after the initial devastation, as international agencies are still struggling to get aid to those still in despeate need of help. With the situation now spiraling out of control only a small portion of the food, water and medicine has reached survivors.

A “run on the dollar,” or any currency, for that matter, takes place when the currency is losing its value. This happens when a country’s debt becomes so great that there is danger of a major default–that is, large scale or even national bankruptcy. At that point, people whose wealth is in that currency, or in relatively liquid assets denominated in the currency, try to get rid of them as fast as they can. Today, that includes foreign countries like China or Russia that are holding large quantities of U.S. government bonds.

Even though the U.S. military budget is almost ten times that of China’s (with a population more than four times as large) and Washington plans a record $708 billion defense budget for next year compared to Russia spending less than $40 billion last year for the same, China and Russia are portrayed as threats to the U.S. and its allies. China has no troops outside its borders; Russia has a small handful in its former territories in Abkhazia, Armenia, South Ossetia and Transdniester. The U.S. has hundreds of thousands of troops stationed in six continents.

While Gates was in charge of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and responsible for almost half of international military spending he was offended that the world’s most populous nation might desire to “deny others countries the ability to threaten it.”
