By Miles Weiss

March 20, 2010
The U.S. Park Police arrested eight people today for lying down during an anti-war protest at the White House, according to a spokesman for the law enforcement unit.

Those arrested at the rally on the anniversary of the U.S.- led invasion of Iraq seven years ago included activist Cindy Sheehan, who has been a vocal critic of the invasion of Iraq since her 21-year-old son Casey was killed in 2004, according to the Associated Press. The rally took place at Lafayette Park, located on the northern side of the White House.

Kevin, why are you making the assumption that I am some sort of GOP apologist? I only asked the question because I’m dealing with a very conflicted set of reactions to that news (as was reported in the NY Times).
As a peace activist who understands that violence is the first resort of the incompetent, I find myself lifting an eyebrow.
However, as a veteran who swore to defend my nation against all enemies foreign and domestic; as well as a survivor of the 9/11 attack on the WTC who holds Cheney PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE for my ATTEMPTED MURDER, all I can say about the act of tearing that waste of the miracle of DNA apart, if only in effigy, is IT’S ABOUT DAMNED TIME.
Worthington discussed the protest at Halliburton in the last paragraph of his latest piece: https://dandelionsalad.wordpress.com/2010/03/21/seven-years-of-war-in-iraq-still-based-on-cheney%e2%80%99s-torture-and-lies/ DS added the photo.
Thanks, Lo.
Thanks for covering this.
You are most welcome. I wouldn’t miss posting this for anything. I love Cindy Sheehan!
But no arrests for the hate crimes of Tea-baggers down the mall at their (actually collusive) CONgress! What bunch of violent hafascists.
Imagine if even one of them showed up with an AR-15…
Now, that’s a very good point. If any protester showed up with something like that they would be arrested immediately in my opinion. Last summer when some guy or guys brought weapons to a gathering with Obama, the police were notified in advance and were told not to do anything if I remember correctly.

Is it true that protesters tore apart an effigy of Dick Cheney?
———————————–
I don’t know Eileen. He is a war criminal responsible for destroying Iraq, killing over one million people, legalizing torture and throwing this country into the worst recession since the Republican inspired Great Depression.
Let me ask you a couple questions:
Is it true Republicans want to destroy America so they can be re-elected?
Is it true Republicans bring guns to public political events to harass and intimidate Democrats and liberals?
Is it true Republicans are trying to create a constitutional crisis in America by falsely claiming Obama is not the legimate president, even though they said nothing when Dubya/dick stole two elections in a row?
“but i got some footage of the riot”
What riot? People were shouting at the cops, who were just standing around.
Technically you may be correct, according to the dictionary. . But most people associate riots with physical violence against property and people.
Besides, the First Amendment gives us the right to peaceable assembly, which is what this protest was. A real riot is not peaceable assembly and would not be legally allowed.
The question to ask is, why was Sheehan arrested for sitting on the sidewalk in front of the White House?
Because if we ever decided to have a massive sit-in, all of Washington, D.C. would be shut down. Once the news spread, millions would flock to D.C. Within one week, the Fascists would be out of power!
It really is that simple, and best of all, it’s legal and protected by the First Amendment. That is the kind of power that WE THE PEOPLE have over our representatives.
WE THE PEOPLE are the sovereignty, not our representatives who just work for us. Collectively, WE can do anything we want, but they have to do everything we say.
Too bad that WE THE PEOPLE are just a bunch of ‘wee little sheeple.’

so where did they take cindy? 3rd district?
i wish obama would do something to stop this… i don’t understand how he just lets the park police put cindy in the weekend drunks’ patty wagon. and i notice the white house cops are still white, save for the slighted biker cop… so much for post-racial: it’s a facade.
i don’t even wanna go home now that i see dc is still white-washing the truth about local dc. i can only imagine who’s harrassing the homeless sleeping around the white house. or is the inaugural homeless sweep still in effect?
