Obama showed up in Afghanistan recently — Bush esque — in a flight jacket, to reassure the troops that the foreign quagmire that they’re involved in isn’t all for naught. It seems that this country has not only ‘gotten over’ our Vietnam syndrome, but we are destined to relive it (Vietnam) at increments of every five to ten years or so. Apparently it’s more profitable for the controllers of this country to wantonly destroy third world nations, hold sham elections, and back an authoritarian strongman, then to invest frugally and prudently in initiatives here at home. Such initiatives could make this country more so emulate the rest of the industrialized world, than the deindustrial, consumeristic miasma that we’ve devolved into.

On Tuesday, I was delighted to be invited to a TV studio on a boat on the Thames to take part in “Crosstalk” on Russia Today, hosted by Peter Lavelle. The other guest, who, I believe, was not obliged to endure the most miserable wind and rain to reach the equivalent studio in Washington D.C., was Charles “Cully” Stimson, formerly the deputy assistant secretary of defense for detainee affairs in the Bush administration, and now a senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation. A video of the 25-minute show is available below via YouTube:

For those of us advocating the first-time use of the Article V convention option in the US Constitution it seemed like heaven-sent blessing that the Wall Street Journal the other day published an oped article by Virginia state legislator James M. LeMunyon, a Republican.  The headline conveyed the key message: A Constitutional Convention Can Rein in Washington.

Okay, it would have been much preferred to avoid using the term constitutional convention and, instead, use Article V convention, because the language in Article V clearly limits a convention to amendments and prevents a wholesale rewriting of the constitution.  Still, the article focused repeatedly on a most important theme that the public urgently needs to fully understand: There really is no remotely possible scenario of a runaway convention that would do terrible damage to the Constitution, either from the left or right.  Thank You Mr. LeMunyon.

April 04, 2010 — In his weekly address, President Obama strangely introduces a war theme into a message ostensibly about a holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ…y’know, the Prince of Peace.

Mr. President, Easter has nothing to do with war. Please stop trying to make Jesus fit with your outlook on war and international relations. You just cheapen both.
