Pulitzer-prize winning foreign correspondent Chris Hedges argues that our country is undergoing an economic, political and moral collapse. He says most Americans “cannot differentiate between lies and truth” because they’ve abandoned literacy and print culture.

Guest Chris Hedges: author most recently of the book, “Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle 2009. He’s also the author of “War is a Force that Gives Us Meaning” 2003.

  6. Televison at large notwithsatanding, we’ve had Pacifica, Amy Goodman, and now even corporately sponsored Maddw, it;s really not so bad at all (especially at any library is DS online!). This particular part of Hedges seems out of date.

The problem is the people, who just don’t care, who enlist for the benefits and their fascination with guns.

Nobody’s ‘digging’ into magical thinking, they know by now what’s going on, if not they are at fault, never has there been more freely available proof.

The poorest among us are rich in reality.

Unemployment is the fault of the people who bought into this nuvelle myth of manufacturing jobs. Yes it’s your fault, the money is flowing faster than ever before, no job will save you. Fools!

The underclass has no idea what poverty means anymore, they duped themselves, there were and remain other options.

    Idiocracy indeed.
