Peace activist Cindy Sheehan discusses the still-elusive “noble cause” soldiers are supposedly dying for, why consumers of mainstream media might reasonably conclude the Iraq War is over, the GI Bill’s under-utilization and why the election of a Democratic president prompts the antiwar movement to take a four year vacation.

The mouthpiece for “New” Democratic president Barack Obama, apparently felt the need to take a shot at a sleeping dog that was out cold — and near death — and has probably been that way since at least the late 1960s, early 1970s. It would stand to reason that after decades of both sides of the aisle handing over the keys to the family vehicle, to all sorts of avaricious and rapacious, beastly corporate predators, that there might be some push back against the “New” Democratic ancien regime. Said mouthpiece, to the “New” Democratic ancien administration, cited a giveaway to the health insurance industry, and a toothless Wall Street “reform” bill; as achievements of the “New” Democratic ancien administration that should have assuaged “intransigent” progressive agitators.

When we hire out to any company it’s always clear who the boss is.  If you are a parent of a young child, there’s little question as to who the boss is.  But when it comes to government most people don’t have the foggiest as to who the boss might be.  We know the term “we the people” but we are just not sure how to apply it to our daily lives.  As a political and peace activist I hear things like “our hands are tied” or “what am I supposed to do about it”?  In this writer’s lifetime there as never been a more important moment to take charge and declare “I’m the boss”.  Therefore I often attend Town Hall meetings and charge my Senator and Congressman as scoundrels and liars.  I enjoy asking them questions that I know they will not answer.  They both squirm with a flare.

Gagged for 6 Years, Nick Merrill Speaks Out on Landmark Court Struggle Against FBI’s National Security Letters

For six years, the FBI has barred a New York man from revealing that the agency had ordered him to hand over personal information about clients of his internet start-up. Finally allowed to speak, Nick Merrill joins us in his first broadcast interview to talk about how he challenged the FBI’s use of national security letters. We also speak with Connecticut librarian George Christian. He and three other librarians also sued the US government after receiving a national security letter demanding information about library patrons. [includes rush transcript]

Day 109: Flight Over Gulf Oil Spill: Oil Everywhere! Where’s the Clean-Up?

https://dandelionsalad.wordpress.com/

AmericanBirding | August 11, 2010

Drew Wheelan of the American Birding Association flies with Southwings Aviation and the Achafalaya and Lower MIssissippi Riverkeepers over the affected coastline from the Deepwater Horizon Oilspill in Louisiana. The flight takes them from Raccoon Island all of the way to the Mississippi River delta. On the outer islands they find oil on nearly every island and marsh, and see little evidence of any clean up efforts. They also encounter long foamy lines attached to oily sheens which might be from the massive amounts of dispersant used in the Gulf in the last 3 months.
