Sept. 26, 2010

On September 25 three missiles fired from a U.S. Predator drone killed four people near the capital of North Waziristan in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas, marking at least the 16th such attack in the country so far this month.

By way of comparison, in the deadliest month preceding this one, January of 2010, there were 11 missile strikes directed by the Central Intelligence Agency’s Special Activities unit inside Pakistan. Last September there were six.

Although it too is a finite resource, it also a renewable resource through the process of recycling, something that is done by nature in another of its amazing cycles that keep (kept?) the biosphere stable; what we call homeostasis where life, chemistry, physics and geology all meet. Water is thus far more symbolic of the irrationality of capitalist production than is oil, where even a renewable resource is consumed by capitalism.

Yesterday, while the Federal Bureau of INTIMIDATION–you know, the New Boss, same as the Old Boss–was raiding the homes of peace and social justice activists across the country in a fishing expedition meant to distract us all from the real criminals and terrorists, the email below arrived in my inbox–About how the U.S. Army, in uniform, in a government van, drove up and down Allen Street here in Buffalo, NY, removing posters announcing a protest scheduled for next Friday.

Below are links to the story about the FBI raids, and the email that came to my inbox (at the bottom of the body of this message, after the links.)
