The latest coup attempt against one of the countries in the Bolivarian Alliance For The People of Our America (ALBA) is attempt to impede Latin American integration and the advance of revolutionary democratic processes.  The rightwing is on the attack in Latin America.  Its success in 2009 in Honduras against the government of Manuel Zelaya energized it and gave it the strength and confidence to strike again against the people and revolutionary governments in Latin America.

Kucinich Renews Call to Cease Hostilities in Pakistan

Washington, Sep 30, 2010

“We are killing the same troops we claim to be helping.”

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), who previously forced a vote in the House to stop the war in Afghanistan from spilling over the border into Pakistan, today renewed his calls for Congress to explicitly cut off funding in the region after the Associated Press (AP) reported that North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) helicopters attacked Pakistani troops at a border crossing. The Pakistani troops, who were in uniforms similar to the local civilian population, are among the same troops being trained by the United States. According to the AP, they were ordered to stop supply trucks attempting to cross the Torkham border post.

This January will be 50 years since JFK took office and President Eisenhower gave his famous Military Industrial Complex farewell speech as a warning. Imagine a Republican president, a cold warrior himself, stating how powerful and deadly this group could become. Of course, by the time of his 1961 speech, the Military Industrial Complex, a syndicate of war industries and the Pentagon, already controlled our foreign policy…. Our Presidents ( including Ike ) , Congress and……mainstream media! So much so, that Eisenhower’s warning was just another item for the 6 and 11 o’clock news shows……. The games begin…….

Even more inept than Obama’s economic wizards, no easy task, is this White House’s crew of public relations losers. They’ve only lost nearly every messaging battle against the relentless, outrageous Rightwing Noise Machine. Whether scorning the fight against the wrong enemies, “Obama’s” TARP, failed Stimulus, insufficiently noxious anti-terrorism, subversive Obamacare, or defending unspeakable Bush tax rip-offs, deranged extremists have buried the president’s bully pulpit in nonsense. Amazingly, the fringe wins by banging the same idiot drums and telegraphing the same bareknuckle lies.

As the reactionary GOP House leader, John Boehner, admitted when talking up his Pledge, reflexively regurgitating Newt Gingrich’s 16 years ago, “we are not going to be any different than we’ve been.”

It strikes me that we here in the UK have been top dog for so damn long that we’ve forgotten what it feels like to be an ordinary country, yet the memory lingers on…

“And it is why I will commit to you here and now. My beliefs will run through everything I do. My beliefs, my values are my anchor and when people try to drag me, as I know they will, it is to that sense of right and wrong, that sense of who I am and what I believe, to which I will always hold.” — From Ed’s keynote speech at the Labour Party conference.

What beliefs exactly are not spelt out but never mind, just like Tony Blair, fine-sounding words make up for any lack of content. So Ed is just an old-time social democrat after all? Amazing, after thirteen years of neo-Thatcherism, the beaten ‘party of labour’ all of a sudden rediscovers its ‘roots’. Who could trust such people?
