My name is Robert, and I am some sort of Republican Shill. It’s uncanny and unsettling: nigh over 20 years, for every gorgeous phrase I lovingly fashion to advance the left, the right grows stronger and nastier, its candidates better funded and more unhinged. Screw good intentions when the fringe detonates and faltering Democrats seem more bereft than ever.
I despair Democratic leadership will get what it’s up against, let alone John H. Moore’s wisecrack, “The real test in golf and in life is not in keeping out of the rough, but in getting out after we are in.” Stuck in its own tracks, the Obama flash increasingly looks like a two-year marvel, a cosmetic layering over a permanent, impregnable reactionary power core.
On Tuesday, Tim Griffin, former chief of research of the Republican National Committee, is on the ballot for Congress to represent Little Rock, Arkansas. He’s favored to win. But Griffin is just as happy to win by stealing votes. Here’s a clip from the Elections Files, the Palast team’s investigations for BBC Television and Democracy Now. … Continue reading →

Another election cycle is upon us . We have the Twiddle Ds ( Democrats ) , the Twiddle Dumbs ( Republicans ) and the new Tea Wind Bags all running like lemmings to ‘Get out the vote‘ . Duh, like it really will make a difference to our bankrupt cities and states. Duh, like it will really make a difference to our Military Industrial Complex who always receive their bloated budget? After all, they have to maintain an empire with not one but two illegal and immoral occupations along with the status quo of 750 + military bases in over 100 countries. You think the Fat Cats who run this War economy really care if a Democrat or Republican or Tea Wind bag candidate wins office? For every Russ Feingold, Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul that creeps out of the shadows of this corrupt two party system, there are hundreds of hacks to outvote and out shout them in Congress…. And from the White House!
The Miami Herald has a piece about the election which shows what the future for Cuba policy would be if Republicans take over the House.
Miami Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is a shoe-in to win reelection, and if she does, a Republican victory nationally would put her in position to chair the House Foreign Affairs Committee. That would effectively put a hold on efforts to change the repressive policy against Cuba. Ros-Lehtinen is a Cuban-American, Bush family protégé, who will back the radical right wing agenda which led us into two unnecessary wars. Continue reading →
