So here we are, knee deep in economic depression with over 11 million homes nationwide underwater with their mortgages. Florida, Michigan, Nevada and California have over 50% of their homes with mortgages worth less than what is owed (The average during normal times is at 5%). Cities and states are broke, and the only solution we hear about is budget cuts for public services. Pretty soon, if you need an ambulance, some ‘for profit’ contractor will require payment up front, or they’ll leave you to fend for yourself. A library book will cost 25 cents to ‘ rent ‘ , and school teachers will be at the same pay grade as checkout cashiers at Wal-Mart. Police and fire personnel will be so downsized that God knows if anyone will show up when you dial 911. Our roads will look like those in the WW2 London and Berlin bombing raid photos. Sewers will back up after heavy rains, and working class kids playing in the street (alas, no funding for ’after school’ programs) will get all kinds of diseases from the filth flowing past their doors. Need I go on?

The Pogo comic strip once made the most enlightened observation: ‘We have met the enemy and he be us! ‘ I mean, many Americans still believe that we were justified in invading and occupying Iraq. They ‘ follow the leaders ‘ and support a military budget that is more than double what it was 10 years ago, to the tune of 50% of our federal taxes. Worried about gays marrying each other and Mexicans invading us for dead end jobs, these Americans refuse to care about what really is drowning them economically. The super rich Wall Street piggies get bailed out while millions of homeowners are underwater and being foreclosed. Layoffs abound and all the fools care about is the next episode of ‘Dancing with the Stars ‘,  or the narcotic called 24 hour professional sports. The only real political conversation you overhear is about what new mega millionaire will run for office (and most likely win).  No need for satire anymore… just watch or listen to the talk shows that masquerade as news. Each day our nation moves one more step closer to Orwell’s 1984!

Ever since the highly questionable 911 and the subsequent invasions and occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq, this writer has behaved a bit like Chicken Little. I could sense the sky is falling being translated into the economy is falling. This all being due to the ever increasing militaristic trend America has been taking. The costs have been astronomical, not only in wasted dollars but in wasted lives. We literally wasted our young soldiers and with them hundreds of thousands of civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and now Libya. We destroyed the towns, cities, hospitals, electric grid, and water supplies of those countries…. While taking vital funding away from our own needs at home. I held my sign in 2004:  Bush Re-Elected in ’04… Underwater in ‘05. I was only off by a few short years. Yet, most progressive minded Americans and even many true conservatives still buy the rhetoric that the 2 Party System sells them. I mean, come on, and how can any true progressive who votes Democratic still support that party?  Hope & Change has become hope that Mr. Obama and his party will change. They won’t! They can’t. They are owned and manipulated by the same Wizards of Oz as their counterparts. Oh, and the Republicans. How can any true conservative support these phonies who are owned and controlled by the Military Industrial Complex of rich corporations that make their profits off of war? You see, as Chicken Little, I was correct. The sky IS falling…. The militarists shot it down and the good people still remain silent. Hear that Pogo?
