Before Osama’s body was cold, it seems, murdered by Navy SEALs in his bedroom, shot in the face assassination style, before his family, Obama was running down on May 5, 2011 to Ground Zero to pump hands with victim families (50 people in 60 minutes) at “private” family tables, providing the personal touch, running off to lunch at the firehouse that lost the most firefighters (15) on 9/11, then conducting a moment of silence at Ground Zero, and muttering the cliché “We will never forget.” Nor will we the people forget, who bought Obama’s line of “change” and voted for him to stop (not increase) “the dumb wars,” withdraw from Afghanistan and fight the financial bloodsuckers with biting legislation that would kill corruption not an untried enemy combatant.
Well, none of that happened, and Obama assumed voters have memories as short as his, having dumped every campaign promise he made, including eliminating torture at Guantanamo (ah, but it works to find out the info we need for Democracy), not. And not cutting tax-cuts for the rich as he did last year, not donning his “comfortable shoes to walk with labor” when their rights to bargain collectively were being bludgeoned into submission in Wisconsin. He was nowhere to be found.
But he surfaced a week before Osama’s murder like a Jack-out-of-the-box with his long-form birth certificate to turn off the Trump spigot, and showed up Sunday night, May 1 on National TV (May Day and Holocaust Remembrance Day), to tell us he’d ordered the hit by Navy Seals in an Osama compound in Abbottabad, sometime after midnight, i.e. shot him in the presence of his family and had his body dropped in the sea wrapped in a sheet, a perversion of Islamic law.
And there he was at Ground Zero, fawning with the vulnerable families of the lost and first responders, making himself as lovable as possible (if that’s possible), visiting the Police Station Number One (which lost none of the 27 policemen on 9/11), thinking what, a police station is a police station. And it all would help to drive up his approval ratings, and predictably, like clockwork it did, including the sprint later that week to Virginia to pump hands with the Navy SEALs.
But in politics, ratings are the ultimate reality, and the reality here, was like a “bad actor strutting and fretting his lines on a stage till he’s heard no more,” hopefully soon. All of this “strutting and fretting” gave Obama, a man who never met a crowd he didn’t love to con, a chance to do his thing.
The question is by September 9/11, 2011, the real ten-year commemoration to the 3000 lost in NYC, D.C. and Shanksville, the 1000 first responders lost so far at Ground Zero, the thousands more poisoned by toxins, where will Obama be; glad-handing what NATO bombers of Libya, crushing forces in Somalia, and shushing what community members of the tight-knit town of Abbottabad, who claim they had no idea or sight of Osama in whatever time he lived there. Some added, if they had seen him they would have reported him. Another said it was his neighbor. So what’s the story Barry? Is you is or is you ain’t telling the truth?
But then does the truth really matter? Isn’t it all about spin as we see Obama whirling like a dervish from family to family, fireman to fireman, cop to cop, and soldier to soldier, telling the uniformed they are all one big army with Homeland Security, fighting the War on Terror, that old chestnut that has sunk us in trillions of dollars of debt and deaths, that has sunk the dollar itself to C+ near junk ratings, sunk the national debt in 14 trillion + bucks of record debt. But then What’s truth got to do with it, the parody lyric for Tina Turner’s “What’s love got to do with it” hit, the theme song of the next campaign.
How do we remind people Osama was “anti-communist” and helped fight Russia’s incursion into Afghanistan politics. He was on our side, recruited and paid for by the C.I.A., to fight our last fear-“ism” (communism), to call for Jihad with the Mujahadeen against a collectivist, dictatorial society. But then, what have we become but a surveillance society with the government staring at everything from your private parts in an airport to your emails, phone-calls, tax-returns and through stoplight signals with CCTV your speed, one big automated spy machine, using Active Denial Systems, strong-millimeter-wave transmitters (i.e. directed-energy, including a microwave version) for crowd control.
So what is the celebration about over a president with unlimited powers to assassinate Americans not in America or anyone else? We know the FBI did not have the evidence to prosecute Osama for the crime of 9/11. That’s why they took his name off the FBI’s Most Wanted List. There were other war crimes he could have stood for, but it took a decade to locate him with the world’s most powerful “intelligence” machine and armed forces. Might it not have been worth capturing him for the real intelligence he possessed? Did we need the adrenaline-pumped kill team, pumping for public relations for a president with a sagging confidence level in his ability to run the U.S.? Was this wise? Or just to feed the crowd’s blood-lust?
And what do we say when the 10th anniversary of 9/11 comes around? And we’re still fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, et al? And the economy by then might have tanked again, its liquidity dried up one more time, its new jobs uncreated, unemployment rife, the dead still flowing home in body bags and cardboard coffins? Look down the line, America, because your leader isn’t. And he may end up being your leader for four more years, with the Military-Industrial-Complex at his back, pushing him forward, over the edge, turning Libya into the staging area for an all-out African takeover, bye-bye Kaddafi this time. After all, these days, anything is possible, like 6,000 school teachers to be fired in NYC.
