(apologies to Andrew Lloyd Webber)

It was so easy
You’ll think it strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I don’t need your love
After all that I’ve done
You won’t believe me
All you will see
Is one you thought you knew
Although I made many promises
I rarely was truthful with you

I had to make it happen
I had to lie
Couldn’t do all the great things I’d said
Looking out at your faces
Never true to my word
So I chose power

Fooling you all, doing nothing new
And nothing improved here at all
I never expected it to

Don’t cry for Barack Obama
The truth is I was never a liberal
All through my campaign
I never intended
To keep a promise
Don’t be offended

And as for fortune and as for fame
I always invited them in
Though it seemed to the world
They weren’t what I desired
They are reality
They are the solutions
I promised to me
The answer was here all the time
I loved me and only loved me

Don’t cry for Barack Obama
The truth is I never loved you
All through my campaign
I never intended
To keep a promise
Don’t be offended

Have I said too much?
There’s nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do
Is look at me to know
That every word is true
