Joe Friendly with the video camera, “Who’s Land? Our Land!!”Gideon Oliver, President of the National Lawyers Guild, 20 Protesters scheduled to go on Trial this Monday, Criminal Trespass charges. Trinity Church was reached out to to drop charges, but Plead powerlessness. That is misleading. No one from Trinity asked charges to be dropped.

Daniel Berrigan @ OWS, with Chris Hedges
Jun 7, 2012 by catwatters4
PLEASE excuse the audio, Fr Daniel Berrigan is 91 years old. I did ask Chris Hedges to translate/mic check for him.
Called “the priest who stayed out in the cold” and “holy outlaw,” Father Daniel J. Berrigan (born 1921) never came to terms with the conservatism of the Catholic Church or with the militarism of the American nation. He lived his life as a militant servant of the Christian faith.
Daniel Berrigan was born in Virginia, Minnesota, on May 9, 1921. His father was a socialist farmer and railroad engineer who wrote poetry and raised his six sons in the brawling, argumentative atmosphere of a small farm near Syracuse, New York. Daniel was the frailest of the boys and from childhood had determined to enter the Catholic priesthood. When he was 18 he joined the Society of Jesus–the Jesuits. In 1952, after 13 years of training (“a most unfinished man”), he was ordained a priest. His brother Philip had also become a Catholic priest, though of a different order. More info here; Daniel J. Chris Hedges spent two decades as a foreign reporter covering wars in Latin America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. His latest books are Death of the Liberal Class, and The World as It Is: Dispatches on the Myth of Human Progress.

Chris Hedges bah, I have no use for him after his smear on the black block, and blaming atheists for the attack of a deranged Christian psycho in Norway.
Chris Hedges has been the conscience of this generation . That cant be said about black block . He spent 10 years reporting on crimes against humanity first hand . do you think that black block would do that ? they just add to the problem . Hedges seeks to unravel the problem and bring healing to the world . You smearing his good name , you should be ashamed of yourself .
That’s too bad. Do you only support those who agree with you on every single issue 100%?
I think it’s “throwing the baby out with the bath water”. I don’t agree with Hedges on every issue either. And that goes for most of my writers here. But I generally learn something from them regardless of whether I agree with them or not. Sometimes it strengthens my opposition.
Please don’t be afraid of people with different viewpoints. It stifles one’s learning in life, in my opinion.
His blaming atheists for an attack by a Christian fundie mass murderer is when I started looking askance at Hedges:
http://chroniclinghate.wordpress.com/2011/08/05/chris-hedges-humiliates-himself/
And then his attack on the black block sealed my utter dislike of his long winded theistic slightly left of center polemics. He was so proud when he got arrested, well guess what the black block are getting arrested and beat on by cops almost everyday resisting state capitalism, and his contention that the black block hates the Zapatistas based on half an hour listening to some “anarchist” podcast was just bizarre:
http://nplusonemag.com/concerning-the-violent-peace-police
Since I am an anarchist and atheist, yes it is personal, just as a racist comment would be personal to a person of color.
The first article doesn’t have who wrote it? Here is what Hedges wrote:

You already gave the second link on Hedges’ video post:

Where are your comments for this piece?

Or this one?

And you didn’t answer my first question, “Do you only support those who agree with you on every single issue 100%?”
Matthew , you take it personal ? so do i when you use an oxymoron like ”christian psycho”. Have you ever considered that your Christophobia is offensive and bigoted? one cannot be a christian and be violent like that guy in Norway .
Compare black block to the dedication of someone like Father Daniel Berrigan who has spent years and years of hard time in prison for non violent civil disobedience , and when he is out of jail he works and lives in Harlem working with aids patients , and he is still getting arrested at age 92 .
You say that you are an Anarchist , but i have never seen you on the blog speak of Tolstoy and his Anarchism that requires not only resistance to the state but also resistance to the dictates of one’s personal desires. Or do you prefer the convenient Anarchism of Bukinin who takes the easy way out by rock throwing.. meanwhile leaving his inner life unexamined .
Thanks, Rocket, great points. Also thanks for bringing the conversation back to this blog post with Berrigan, etc.
Matthew, did you even watch the videos?
The problem is, as Chris says, the financier “class” which I just call collectively, The Worthmores. The women who spend the money, the Missus Worthmores, are JUST as bad. They have more feeling for their (prestige) pets, than they do for their own children.
so true virginia . good to see Berrigan my hero out there again .
Rocket .. i met the Berrigans after the Pentagon march. WAY BACK. It inspired me SO much I worked for Mobilization Against the War here in Mpls for two years. They are Supremely wise, kind and the absolute perfect role models, imho. They just go on with it .. kindly.
