Bradley Manning apologizes to court for ‘unintended consequences’ of his actions

Private first class Bradley Manning’s sentencing sessions continued on Wednesday in Fort Meade, Maryland. The soldier is convicted of one of the largest information leaks in US history and he finally spoke in his trial regarding his involvement in releasing sensitive information to the website WikiLeaks.

Bradley Manning personally delivered a statement as his trial, which could see him convicted for up to 90 years in prison, nears its end. He defended leaking 700,000 US diplomatic cables as an act of conscience and apologized for the damage he caused.

Postal and community activists struggling to save the U.S. Postal Service from privatization need to know who they are fighting against.

The Postal Service was established in 1775. It needed government administration as it was so important for communication.

Even in today’s age of Internet communication, 20 percent of the U.S. population lack Internet access and depend on the post office for bills, bank statements and letters. (Gallup World, Aug. 4) The Postal Service is still essential for the $1.3-trillion mailing industry.
