Glenn Greenwald’s partner detained at UK airport
RTAmerica on Aug 19, 2013
Over the weekend, English authorities detained David Miranda for nine hours at London’s Heathrow Airport. The 28-year-old Brazilian man is the partner of Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald who was responsible for releasing Edward Snowden’s NSA mass surveillance leaks. Many critics believe that UK authorities are simply retaliating against Greenwald’s reports, and RT’s Sam Sacks has more on the scandalous tactics.

RussiaToday on Aug 19, 2013
The British government’s attempts to stem the tide of articles on mass surveillance have gone beyond intimidating the journalist behind the publications. Just a day after Glenn Greenwald’s partner was detained at Heathrow airport, The Guardian’s editor, Alan Rusbridger, came forward describing how the authorities pressured the newspaper to destroy documents provided by NSA leaker Edward Snowden. Mr. Rusbridger has explained why he gave in to pressure from government agents, and destroyed hard-drives carrying information obtained from Edward Snowden.

UK Media Crackdown: Greenwald’s Partner Detained, Guardian Forced to Destroy Snowden Files. 1 of 2
democracynow on Aug 20, 2013
www.democracynow.org – The Obama administration has acknowledged it had advance notice British officials were going to detain David Miranda, the partner of Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald, who has revealed the National Security Agency’s massive spy practices. Miranda was held Sunday at London’s Heathrow Airport under Section 7 of the British Terrorism Act for nine hours — the maximum time he could be detained without charge. Miranda has just announced legal action against the British Home Office for his detention. Meanwhile, The Guardian has revealed the British government threatened legal action against the newspaper unless it either destroyed Snowden’s classified documents or handed them to British authorities. “At its core, what is at stake is the ability for a human being to have dignity and for journalists to have integrity with their sources, [threatening] the whole concept of a free democracy,” says computer security researcher Jacob Appelbaum, who has been detained and questioned numerous times at airports. “And I don’t mean that as hyperbole, but if everything is under surveillance, how is that you can have a democracy? How is it that you can organize a political function, or have confidentiality with a constituent, or a source, or with a friend or a lover? That’s an erasure of fundamental things that we have had for quite some time.” We’re also joined by longtime British attorney Gareth Peirce.

This is now pellucid evidence of the full fruition of monstrous dictatorship by technologies of tyranny. This era is one of covert creep and exponential oppression by stealth, through the infiltration of those very institutions of government that are sworn to serve and protect the public interest.
We have to challenge this complete inversion of the principle of law.
The embedded abuse of state powers by “our” post WW2 NATO axis is clearly now unequivocally the “supreme crime of our times” ~ a colossal perversion of due process.
As responsible citizens and conscientious planetary beings, we should (and indeed, we must) resist this insidious disease with all the combined moral and intellectual force we can muster.
The right to an honourable and free, self-determined life and all human rights are on our side.
Indeed, it is tyranny, David.

Great, thank you Lo.
This is utterly disgraceful. Of course it is intimidation. It is so far beneath contempt as to be worthy of forensic investigation by a seasoned mental health professional. It is an absolutely stark & fiendish intrusion into someone’s personal space. How dare they!.
These infantile “police” goons should be arraigned before the European Court of Human Rights and given no quarter…it is nothing short of mafia tactics and stinks of US instigated collusion…if responsibility for this ludicrous hoodoo lies at the doorstep of the “Right Honourable” William Hague, then he is certainly neither right nor honourable…
Shame Sir! How pathetic can it get Mr Hague? Can you seriously contend that such schoolyard-bully canards are justifiable in the name of security and justice? Justice for whom? The Grand Genocidal Inquisition and the Forty Billionaire Thieves?
I’m spitting wrathful.
It is outrageous.
I’ve updated the post with a few more videos.
Thank you for these invaluable updates Lo. Please forgive for my extended spiel.
Alan Rusbridger spells it out and Gareth Peirce, Appelbaum et al. have got it completely right. We dare not underestimate the critical importance of this development, for it underscores the absolute legal and moral crisis of credibility our Western coalition of alleged “interests” now faces.
I believe this is the most significant tipping point ~ a real acid test for our respective governments and the much vaunted “special relationship.” We have witnessed an inexorable slide into covert tyranny, that is beyond doubt ~ tails are wagging dogs everywhere, as avuncular authorities go about green-washing the dirty works of the perverted string-pullers.
What happens next and where we go from here, depends on how an ecologically educated, politically informed and conscientious citizenry respond(s) to these pretexts and stunts. I don’t buy the White House denials. They camouflage intent. They’re all scratching each others’ bent backs. Washington spook-spinsters bribe, cajole and mesmerize mobs of willing dupes, by trailing alluring $$$ promises to creatures of greed ~ all are hopelessly addicted to the charismatic glamour cast by multinational board-room Hitlers.
The UK loves to perform its fascistic red-coated dance of default self-importance & biblical loyalties. Their new Orwellian Yankee Doodlebug song-sheet says ~ we are locking you up so you can be truly secure & “free.”
This venal orchestra is out of control, its “equal temperament” is a foul cacophony of noise and tasteless filth. Cameron should come clean & blow the whistle on this endemic corruption, but he won’t and the implications for UK politics are quite dire, as the American disease drips into our veins.
We have reached a complete turning point, for the simple reason that this entire sinister “security apparatus” has metamorphosed into the very global threat that its purported prophylaxis was traditionally prescribed to kettle.
The complete opposite is true; by contriving so many illegitimate provocations they are directly engineering the actual forces they pretend to quash. It is sheer lunacy, because they believe they are playing a little game of “black magic;” but just like the eponymous sorcerer’s apprentice, their precocious invocation of these dark powers is now evoking a very perfect storm. Tant pis!
We must assay with very great care the gravity of this occult weather pattern, as it unravels its full import; for it will surely produce deeply unprecedented consequences….
David , if we in the states dont even practice the bill of rights , who have it …. how can anyone expect the British to ? this is no offence to the people of England , it is just that ..well you know what i mean ..
I do indeed!
Reblogged this on Occupy Cyberspace – American Autumn and commented:
Much too little, far too late….
Thanks!
And the UK is not the only country that has turned into a Yankee lap dog.
peskyvera, its is worse than that …. a study of the Anglo-American Alliance over the centuries is some real sick Alliance and has a real sick history . this is just another phase of this marriage.
It is the insidious Anglo/Saxon axis that needs watching – not Iran, Iraq and N Korea. Hopefully, The Guardian hasn’t put ‘all eggs’ in one basket.
peskyvera , yes my friend …well said. a real bulls-eye.
