Besides the obvious fact that Sean Penn is one of the greatest and most serious actors of our time, pulling off the most risky roles, he happens also to be one of America’s most passionate and daring activists. Yet he has been mocked unfairly for his activism by cowardly big mouths. So what gives here?

When disaster hits, Sean Penn does not only write checks to help the afflicted but he has risked his life time and time again to rescue lives in peril. When the riots in L.A. came after the Rodney King verdict, Penn got into his car with a loaded revolver and went down into the most violent parts of the city to rescue people.

After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Penn went into that city with a few of his friends and a small row boat and he dove into a diseased snake and alligator infested water and saved life after life.

When that killer earthquake decimated Haiti, it was Sean Penn who went down there and saw the carnage and doctors having to amputate limbs full of gangrene to save people without proper anesthesia. Penn got on the horn by not only bringing this to the attention of people with money, but spent months and months down there living in a small shack running a refugee camp. Even the head of the American Army down there said, “Sean Penn and I disagree on politics, but I will say one thing for him, he does not just talk the talk, he walks the walk.”

Hugo Chavez has described him as one of the most intense people he had ever met. Sean Penn is maligned by Liberals and Conservatives alike. Liberals because of their do-nothing double speak, and their seared conscience, and conservatives because they think that he is a liberal. Penn is neither.

The ironic thing about Sean Penn or for any great American is that their heroic and generous deeds that express their liberty defies the category placed on them by their couch potato pundits. For pundits just talk. But great Americans act.

The kicker is this: Sean Penn is Sean Penn. His form of activism is unique, dangerous, and very, very effective. He verbally holds others accountable to do something during crisis. Those who know Penn personally say, “Sean is only happy when he is unhappy”. That may be true. But his unhappiness is a dissatisfaction with business as usual, and so he swings into motion, yet another time into the breach.

His stellar example bothers and sometimes infuriates the complaining complacent. But he does not care. This brave man saves lives after lives after lives, and as we can all see there are more lives that need to be saved, and that is why we need more brave Americans like Sean Penn.

    • right on Jerry …..and one hell of monumental actor and director too. I love the guy and deeply admire him and all his work on and off screen .

    • Jason , a joke ? i dont find it so funny that after the Quake in Haiti that they had to amputate children’s limbs with hacksaws , with only aspirin to kill the pain , and Sean Penn brought a whole plane full of morphine down there to numb the pain . you find that funny ?

it is dead serious . if that were my son i would not think it funny . but then again you might . or do you ? mmm.

        • Kd– if you see these links ..he is . he loves danger , and he cant stand injustice , nor does he give a damn to what people think .

i dont knock other activists, but Penn just has his own style . he has no fear whatsoever. my kind of dude. besides being one of the greatest actors of all time, and a great writer, director.

    • your welcome . i got sick and tired of hearing people put his activism down . this was my response . time to set the record straight .
