Once upon a time in the US of A, the Plundering Class told their lackeys in the White House and Congress that huge war budgets would be necessary to provide the hundreds of thousands of unquestioning, expendable bodies to act as security guards to national (corporate) “interests” (as they called them) all over the planet, because those “national interests” would regularly be extracting precious natural resources which should have belonged to the people of all those countries, instead of to corporations and Wall Street; and those extractions would be exploiting local labor at slave wages with no workers’ rights and health protections, while polluting the water, ground and air of the very workers being exploited. And, of course, those ungrateful, anti-American workers would irrationally hate the US of A and its corporations which had gone to so much trouble to give them jobs. And so those corporate “interests” would need protection. Lots of protection. Continue reading

Afshin Rattansi goes underground about the time WikiLeaks met Google. Julian Assange discusses the meeting he had in 2011 with Eric Schmidt and three others. Schmidt, now chairman of Google, was then a top executive. Assange maintains Google is in bed with the state department and also reveals the false allegations the US military made against WikiLeaks, which surfaced during the Chelsea Manning trial. Assange talks about Guardian gaffs, Glenn Greenwald, FinFisher spyware and the NSA’s rampant antics. The interview reveals ‘an extremely alarming phenomenon’: how more and more security-cleared Americans are joining the ranks of the ‘state within a state’ – 6 million to date. The interview wraps up with a discussion about the likely consequences for Scotland after the ‘No’ vote in their historic referendum.

The gruesome beheading of a British aid worker by the ISIS terror group in Syria over the weekend provoked a stern warning from Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron who vowed to “hunt down the murderers” for their “act of pure evil”.

The British victim was named as David Haines, a 44-year-old aid worker, who had been held hostage in Syria for many months. A graphic video released by his killers shows Haines kneeling on the ground dressed in an orange jumpsuit as a masked executioner severs his throat with a knife. The dead man’s prone body is then filmed with a decapitated, bloody head placed on the corpse’s back. Continue reading
