(Brief post-script to my initial comment on Derrick Jensen’s superb interview:)
I had never heard that connection between “educare” and midwifery. That is extraordinarily important….
It makes total sense, insofar as every meaningful stage of life is really yet another initiation or “rebirth!” Even the threshold we call “death.” Each rite of passage is literally just that. It is how “True Will” that is our sacred purpose, eventually emerges, mutates and evolves. It is the means by which real love can manifest its power. We can actively study this, or perhaps it may discover us by chance.
So we should concur with Derrick ~ you can’t be a little bit extinct. Don’t turn the other cheek, folks. “Love is a verb….” Resist! We need invincible advocates for the sacred Earth ~ no compromise !! Passion is a wonderful guide, a terrific incentive. As Polly Higgins says “dare to be great!”
Real values = real life.

Yes, loyalty and allegiance is yet another “master” key. It takes courage and intelligence! Our job is to awaken and reaffirm that intuitive capacity.
Humans must be reminded of their innate instincts that have been so corrupted by false “education,” threats of hell and intimidation by force.
The ludicrous God of this world is a lying, deceiving bully ~ an ego projection of stupid man. “It” must be dethroned, dissolved.
Also “rape” says it all. We cannot expect our alleged “civilization” to condemn rape when all it does is precisely that.
Our “culture” is the most rapacious that has ever existed!!
I’d never heard from Richard Manning before: he says a lot of things that make enormous sense.
Number one: relationships. This is the whole story in a nutshell. It is also the core principle of ecology, so we are also talking real science here.
As for the IPCC, I’m skeptical because their reports are actually selective “policy documents” and therefore highly freighted with issues of interpretation; these recommendations are not just delivering a complete spectrum of impartial up-to-date research data. “Interests” always come into the frame.
Data must be interpreted, for comprehensive inferences to be drawn.
The main problem with climate science is the limitation of the models at our disposal. There are significant factors that have not yet been factored adequately in my view, like micro-climates, or the role of microbiotic “intelligence” & the self-regulating function of systemic orders of (potentially cosmic) scaling.
All we can say with certainty, is that the cumulative impacts of human activity are life threatening. How the planetary system responds and adapts to those impacts may be profoundly disruptive to our present anthropocentric condition.
I think Richard is too hard on those who were active in the ‘sixties. The changes were felt, but the reactionary backlash was colossal ~ hence the situation we are in right now.
Yes, youth had a key role in the demonstrations over Vietnam and the issues of the day…but there were also many older activists as well, & today is no different. Real change must arise from an awareness of all relationships, on every conceivable level.
