The detention of migrants has become a multi-billion dollar industry in which immigrants are sold to the highest bidder and traded like mere products. The Corrections Corporation of America, The Geo Group, and the Management and Training Corporation run over 200 facilities all over the nation. These facilities offer over 150,000 bed spaces and rake in a total profit of close to five billion dollars per year. The fact that these detention centers get paid for the number of people that are in the center per night offers, therefore, no incentive to speed up the legal processes and let the detainees leave the facility.

0:00 Private prisons such as the CCA (Corrections Corporation of America) own over 200 facilities in the nation and makes a profit close to 5 billion dollars per year on inmates. They rely on anti-immigrant laws like Arizona’s SB1070 and copycat laws across the nation for fresh inmates and continual profit.

2:30 Mother and son, Emily and Logan, suffer the repercussions of private prison greed as they commute to her husband’s final court date in Georgia, the victim of anti-immigration laws.

6:04 “El Refugio” offers free food and overnight housing for families visiting loved ones in the detention centers. The CCA tries to prevent this service by escorting anyone handing out fliers off the premises. Family members share testimonials about how these prisons do not accommodate inmates who have health conditions such as diabetes.

8:44 Roberto Martinez-Medina got arrested for not having a valid driver’s license…he died in prison after being there for a month. The staff in the housing unit had been told that he was ill, that he was vomiting. They saw him that morning and refused to see him again. His fellow inmates there cared for him because he couldn’t get medical attention.

11:23 American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC, pours millions of dollars into creating anti-immigration laws like SB1070 for their own benefit. They claim that private prisons cut public budgets, but the reality is different.

14:28 Private prisons don’t just destroy the lives of prisoners. Littlefield, TX– home of a large private prison is being smothered by the greedy corporation.

17:08 A former detainee recalls the numerous injustices she lived through in prison.

18:39 A mentally ill man who was beaten by guards and sent to the hospital details his abuse in a private immigration detention facility.

24:32 An ex-CCA Florida Correctional Officer shares what she has witnessed and why she was terminated. CCA has made it very difficult for her to find a job.

27:51 Pembroke Pines residents talk about how CCA prisons are affecting their communities. 98% are opposed to the new detention center.

Absolutely obscene, the most outrageous criminal racism ~ seems like this “most christian country” should be universally recognized as altogether inhumane, & monstrously uncivilized until its villainous (indigenous) abuses are rendered utterly obsolete. The rule of law in the States is a surreal joke. Sick, sick, sick!

    Money kills.
