John Pilger provides an outside perspective on U.S. politics. Pilger is a journalist, film-maker, and author who lives in Lambeth, south London. He is only one of two to win British journalism’s highest award twice. For his documentary films, he has won an Emmy and a British Academy Award. His epic 1979 Cambodia Year Zero is ranked by the British Film Institute as one of the ten most important documentaries of the 20th century. His Death of a Nation, filmed secretly in East Timor, had a worldwide impact in 1994. His books include Heroes, Distant Voices, Hidden Agendas, The New Rulers of the World and Freedom Next Time. He is a recipient of Australia’s international human rights award, the Sydney Peace Prize, “for “enabling the voices of the powerless to be heard” and “for fearless challenges to censorship in any form”.

  7. Always learning something new from JP.

Personally, I think the greatest danger in biospheric terms, is the potential for a hair trigger accidental outbreak with consequences nobody can predict.

War has never been ‘conventional’ but, even if unconventional ordnance were easily to be used and may already be deployed, the risk of a catastrophic big error remains, then who knows what dominoes will fall?

Israel for example, is said to have long-range submarine nuclear-strike capability. The Taliban are assuring Pakistan of their willingness to assist them to defeat Daesh. There are calls for Japan to change its pacifist constitution.

Meanwhile, shouldn’t we all be just a little more concerned about Fukushima?

    • In light of John’s enlightening remarks here about Australia’s relationship to the US, it is worth listening to his extraordinary latest film Utopia, about Australia’s First Peoples that is now available online https://dandelionsalad.wordpress.com/2016/08/13/john-pilger-utopia-2013/

The details about the prison regime and the genocidal treatment of Aboriginals, has deeply disturbing resonances with Chris Hedges’ latest RT On Contact episode about the Prison Industrial Complex in the US.

That villainous old British Empire still has a lot to be accountable for, make no mistake; although there is no way that today’s Britain may be said to condone or proposes to emulate the inhumane US ‘correctional’ system ~ quite the contrary is the case, in fact, despite many extreme problems in UK prisons.
