Asian fault-lines are indeed perilous in the extreme. This development is beyond dangerous.
Of course, in this fascistic calculus (of both ‘sides’) the North Koreans are not human beings. Their regime is vile and ‘UN’ sanctions are evil.
So let’s try to be more grown up, as Lawrence Wilkerson advises.
The US certainly has the sophisticated firepower to exercise colossal overkill-restraint but deliver an exemplary tactical slap on the wrist ~ if entirely ‘necessary;’ that is to say, justifiable, in terms of actually effectively deterring further imminent threats to life, limb and environmental integrity by the black-market Kim dynasty.
The concern is that with all these constant provocations from morally twisted right-wing American ‘pentagonals,’ a devastating show of ‘strength’ may be irresistible; as the Real News interview reminds us. Raytheon-type beneficiaries will be salivating at the prospect of such a hugely profitable demonstration, by the Trump clown-mafia, of eye-wateringly expensive, lethal ecocidal force.
I do not think any individual seeking high office, should ever be allowed to serve (or ‘dictate,’ as the case may be…) until or unless they have lived and conferred with, the casualties and victims of egregious state violence and gratuitous cruelty. Such experience will change a feeling person forever, to affect anyone who is capable of genuine sentience, life-awareness and empathy.
Those who just pretend to ‘feel their pain’ or are simply unable to respond, should under no circumstance, whatsoever, be permitted to occupy a public office.
Maybe arrogant corporate misers who happily look away, but manipulate dictatorships to their criminal advantage, should devote some adequate vacation time to r&r in one of the far too numerous long-term refugee camps or migrant centres that have proliferated worldwide….the agonizing contrast to a sanitized Trump-style golf-resort could hardly be more extreme.
Thanks, David.
