Democracy is largely an illusion
Of course it is but a widely held belief because we are told and have been told since birth that the US is a democracy.
and the UK! You’re right, the whole system is built to make you believe that you have a chance.

In modern nation-states, Democracy is a myth. I just watched a brief history of Greece video, and in it when mentioning democracy the video stated if the ancient Greeks saw modern day “democracy” they would call it what it actually is, an Oligarchy. Video begins at 8:23:
