FREE ASSANGE IRELAND/GALWAY ALLIANCE AGAINST WAR
CHOMSKY, PILGER & GALLOWAY SPEAKERS AT IRISH PEACE WEBINAR
Saturday 4th June at 2pmNoam Chomsky has called on the Irish Government to take “a strong stand in support of the European effort for a diplomatic settlement” of the conflict in the Ukraine. “If Ireland does, that has an effect in the United States, an effect on Europe, on everyone……to reverse this race to catastrophe.”
In a pre-recorded address to an Irish peace webinar, which took place online on Saturday 4th June at 2pm, the renowned US academic also described Washington’s “totalitarian control of information” about the Ukrainian crisis as “suicidal”. “How can you have an opinion on what’s happening, if you are not even allowed to know what the Russians are saying?”
John Pilger, the Australian journalist and filmmaker and George Galloway the British politician, broadcaster and writer both participated in the event. Also in attendance were the two Irish MEPs, Clare Daly and Mick Wallace, plus two Irish journalists Harry Browne and Eoin Ó Murchú, the former Dáil correspondent of Raidió na Gaeltachta.
The title of the webinar is taken from a quotation of the imprisoned journalist and founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, “If wars can be started by lies, peace can be started by truth.”
