Facebook will deactivate my account tomorrow because they want me to use Facebook Protect and to use that service I must have a mobile phone with texting which I do not have.

I received a friend request this morning but thought it was a hack so deleted it.
No, it wasn’t a hack. Hope you’ll still want to connect on FB and either accept a new friend request from me, or put one in yourself.
I made a public post on the new account saying that it’s a new profile.
I was confronted by the same FB b.s. about 2FA
there IS another option: I had to change my password to a longer / more complex one.
I’ve already done that. My password is fine, but FB still wants to activate Facebook Protect and it wants a two-step authorization to login.
bummer .. special rules for you 😦
Well, it’s not special rules just for me, but special login codes for those accounts with Facebook Protect.
Lo, I am so sorry that Facebook has happened to you. Facebook has been vicious, as far as I’m concerned. Vicious and inconsiderate and brutal. It has censored and deleted my posts, and my friends’ posts, barred us from our accounts and just tried to play God (more like the Devil) with us lowly Facebook “citizens”. (yeah, right)

You should be able to use the free Google Voice to have a throwaway number for that.
That doesn’t make any sense to me. I don’t have a microphone on my computer. Anyway FB wants to send a text message with a code.
