After decades of delaying, the United Nations finally released archives from the Second World War-era war crimes commission investigating the Nazi Holocaust. The source of those archives on Nazi war crimes were Western governments, including those in exile at the time of the war, such as the Belgian, Polish and Czechoslovakian. The time period covered is 1943-1949. Washington and London had long sought to halt the release. Why?

Late in the election campaign, as Donald Trump hammered home his vile attacks on people of color, immigrants, Muslims, women; as he beefed up support among the worst racist elements including the Ku Klux Klan, white militias and Nazis, he also openly appealed to anti-Jewish forces.

A statement by Palestine Solidarity Committee

Palestine Solidarity Committee’s mission is support independence, security and self-determination for all the peoples of Israel/Palestine, and to change U.S. policy in the Middle East by educating Americans in ways that American funds and foreign policy are used to maintain the Israeli military occupation which violates Palestinian human rights and generates violence from both sides. We object to the Israeli government’s policies of occupation, apartheid, and dispossession of Palestinians. In opposing these policies and US support for them, our objections are directed at the unjust practices of a political regime, not against the Jewish people of the world.

Not sure what's more awesome, the history of Jewish pioneers in NM or the "role" of Noah Wyle

Amazing but true: The first European settlers in what is now the USA weren’t English Puritans or French fur trappers but Sephardic Jews. Before the Mayflower sailed to America, Jews had fled the Spanish Inquisition and settled in what is now Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Although they were eventually absorbed into the mainstream culture, they built a real Jewish life here.

Who were these first pioneers? What happened that forced them to flee? What did they encounter in this far land? These questions fascinate me, and as I read what little we know about them and imagine their lives, a story emerges:

Is there a double standard in the response to anti-Semitism against Arab Americans compared with the response to anti-Semitism directed against American Jews? AAI President Jim Zogby joined renowned Arab American author and professor Jack Shaheen to debate the question with Josef Olmert, adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina, and Kenneth Marcus of the Brandeis Center for Human Rights. The debate was moderated by Patrick Sloyan, former Newsday reporter and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism.

This is a transcript of an email interview I had with Andrew Gavin Marshall, Project Manager of The People’s Book Project. In it we discuss anarchism, trace its beginnings, delve into some of its history in both the United States and around the world, and conclude by discussing anarchism’s effect on today’s Occupy movement.

Devon DB: Could you provide a working definition of anarchism?

Ynet Op-ed: Zionism will only cease being demonized when West stops to demonise colonialism [sic]

If I didn’t know any better I’d think the following Op-ed piece from the rightwing Israeli news source Ynet was another Yes Men spoof but it’s for real. I decided finally to publish the opinion in its entirety (if in a somewhat fragmented form) for it reveals the insane irrationality that underpins Zionism as the only ‘defender of the Jewish people’ (aside that is from its benefactor the US).

This is the eleventh installment of a project that is likely to extend over a two-year-period from January, 2010. It is the serialization of a book entitled The 15% Solution: A Political History of American Fascism, 2001-2022. Herein you will find Chapter 10. This chapter presents the Second Inaugural Address (2008) of President Jefferson Davis Hague who, with his American Christian Nation Party, the successor to the old GOP, is completing the process of the transformation of the old United States into the “Christian Nation” that the old Republican Religious Right had openly campaigned for for so many years. Under the pseudonym Jonathan Westminster, the book is purportedly published in the year 2048 on the 25th Anniversary of the Restoration of Constitutional Democracy in the Re-United States. Glenn Beck would appear to be the template for the anti-Semitic Zionist. After Beck odiously displayed a puppet show, with Hungarian Holocaust survivor George Soros as the stringer-puller-in-chief. Soros is, of course, ostensibly directing and manipulating the country and politicians on both sides of the “political divide” — presumably toward an end of his creation. Beck’s defense for all of this, is that he is probably a stronger supporter of the state of Israel than his bogeyman and antihero.

The Wages of Hate: The Development of Political Homophobia by Steven Jonas, MD, MPH

Homophobia has been around for a long time.  It turns up in the Old Testament of the Bible as well as in the New.  The Republican Religious Right relies on that view in support of its homophobia, and cites chapters and verses in support of it.  (Not every religious scholar agrees with that interpretation of the Bible.  Indeed, Minister Peter Gomes, the well-known gay [and African-American] Baptist long-time director of the Harvard Divinity School, strongly disagrees with it [see Gomes, P.J., “Homophobic? Re-read Your Bible,”  New York Times, August 17, 1992, and Westminster, J., The 15% Solution: A Political History of American Fascism, 2001-2022, East Setauket, NY, Thomas Jefferson Press, 1996, pp.155-56]).  In modern times it was used by the Nazis to promote their ideology once Hitler’s dictatorship had been established.  Indeed, despite the fact  that the head of the Sturmabteilung, the SA, the most prominent pre-1933 Nazi armed force, Ernst Roehm, was himself homosexual and Hermann Goering was a cross-dresser, the Nazis went after the gays as their identity group of choice for demonization before they went after the Jews full force.
